Re: Fantasy-Faction Book Battles: Favorite Sidekick Nominations When I saw a thread for sidekicks one name instantly sprang to mind, and as he hasn't been mentioned yet I've de-cloaked from my lurking status to post. My suggestion is:-

- Moonglum of Elwher, companion to Elric of Melnibone (Elric, Michael Moorcock)

Other than that I agree with a few of those already put forward (namely Samwise Gamgee, Jean Tannen and Silk), but would also add:-

- Bannor, Bloodguard assigned to Thomas Covenant (TC, Stephen Donaldson)
- Batik, Hellborn refugee who fights alongside Jon Shannow (Wolf In Shadow, David Gemmell)

And a couple of non-human suggestions:-

- The Luggage, property of Rincewind (Discworld, Terry Pratchett)
- Oy, billy-bumbler and member of Roland Deschain's ka-tet (Dark Tower, Stephen King)

Re: SFF Female Author Recommendation Needed for Work Well I would have suggested Tepper but you've got that covered. The only other one that springs to mind is Hermetech by Storm Constantine - might not be feminist but does have extreme body-mods to make characters "intersex" and deals with alternative sexuality, as I believe much of her work does.

Between 1941-1950: The Case Of Charles Dexter Ward - HP Lovecraft
Between 1951-1960: The Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien
Between 1961-1970: Stormbringer - Michael Moorcock
Between 1971-1980: The Stand - Stephen King
Between 1981-1990: Wolf In Shadow - David Gemmell
Between 1991-2000: Men At Arms - Terry Pratchett
Between 2001-2010: Best Served Cold - Joe Abercrombie

Re: Revive the Fantasy Faction Book Battles? I'd probably take part in any type, no preference.

But if you wanted other ideas I'd suggest any of the following (some of which would mean re-doing old ones), maybe even starting with the big one:-

(Cover may indeed be worth a shout)

Character (overall, then sub-types)
-Secondary (or combine with sidekick)
-Worst/annoying character (cos I've got a few)

Weapon/Artifact etc
Location etc
Creature/Monster (or again combine with Race)

Re: Fantasy Book Covers - Do they lure you in? The cover has no importance to me at all - why care, I hardly ever see it. The spine though... ahhh, that's a different matter. That can sway me.
