Re: Knowing a bit, but the rest is a great big jumble of nothing
I had a workshop once with a writer (published) who advocated that method, @Peat. He plotted a few chapters in advance of where he was writing. He described it as being like driving at night. You know the broad idea of where you're going, and you have headlights to see the road right in front of you, and that will get you there. (To add in your evolving plot document, you also have advice about some key turning points? I gotta stop making these convoluted analogies...)

Maybe it's like a drive where you don't have a map and instead making the drive from your memory. You know where to go when you finally see the turning, but before you see it you can't remember quite whether it is.

Or something.

I'm mainly just relieved I'm not the only one who think it's a good idea!

Re: [Apr 2016] - The Last Contest - Discussion Thread
Well my submission is in the works now and im afraid it is going to grow In to a much larger work.
As though I need more half baked projects  :-[
You're not the first, hehe
Hey @Jmack, come and tell him what you did with the library squirrels ;)

Ah, the squirrels. Goats ate them.
No, actually, Alexander, Penelope and the squirrels are very much on my mind...
unfortunately, not in too much writing... yet.

Hmm. Does squirrels fighting goats count as a utopia, or a dystopia? I'm really not sure.

Re: Second Chance? Studied something with actual job prospects, gone out and got drunk more in the company of friendly women, hit the gym more when gaining muscle might have been easier, learned the drums properly and never ever ever *ever* go near that bloody doctor that put down my chest infection as asthma and ruined my chances of getting in the army.

And write more. It's only in the last couple of years that I started taking it seriously.

Re: The King's Paws I see your Billy Connolly and raise you Peter Capaldi.

Warning: Really NSFW. Really really not.

Also, these people are from Glasgow, not Edinburgh, so things might be a bit different. And certainly a lot less sweary.

Re: What do you like or hate in regards to book summaries?
Than how do you know it's one you want to spend time on?

Word of mouth. I receive about 10 recommendations a day just by browsing. Reading blurbs just ain't necessary.

Also, reading the first chapter.

I guess I look at them sometimes but I'm really struggling to think what I like and dislike because of how little I use them.

The big no-no is anyone bigging up the work. Describe the story and let me decide. Incredibly stereotypical descriptions that clearly aren't using them for a reason too.

... Yeah, I'm out. I dunno what I like, but I knows it when I sees it ;)

Re: Post number 4,000 Congrats man. Although, 4k posts in that time period... wow.

Also, I've no idea what the dragon vs goat thing, but damned if I don't know a good bandwagon when I see one. So pics. Of goats. Because I can!

Re: The King's Paws I get where Hedin's coming from. There's a lot of deeply unpleasant things I want to experience simply because they'd be awesome experiences. I mean that in an old school way, not a wicked cool way.

Speaking of which, me and the woman booked a wedding venue today, and the ring is just being finished, so there's one awesome experience coming my way... and I mean that in both senses!

Re: The King's Paws I can't look at Henry Dale's without humming tunes from the Book of Mormon. Sorrynotsorry.

Re: Want my heroes to fight (but they won't let me!) They're your heroes! If they won't fight, conduct brain surgery on them until they will  >:(

I'm fairly serious about that one. You can give them that short fuse, or blind spot when their family is in danger, or overly competitive nature if you want. And, if they're really not going to fight any other way, why not? Arguably you'd get more from two heroes with contrasting natures anyway.

Failing that -

Have another character exert mind control. Blackmail can work as well as supernatural means.
