Re: How much did you write today?
Dumped out 1500 words and got a project back on touch after getting frustrated editing another. Good feeling

Re: Why Do You Want to be an Author?
I want a job where I never have to put clothes on.
I need to get rid of the ideas somehow before they consume my mind and leave behind a festering zombie.
I want power and glory eternal. Writing seems less dangerous than raising an army.
Finally, I've heard acting described as the shy man's revenge - the ability to go out and be whoever for those who don't have the confidence to do so in their everyday life. Well, writing for me has more than an element of that.
But, really, it's mainly about not having to put underpants on.

Re: Using social media
I can't sympathise enough with looking at Social Media as a publication tool and being all sorts of overwhelmed and hating on Social Media. My last editor when I tried reviewing music made fun of how bad I was at Twitter. I've been there and I'm dreading going back. Here's what I'm telling myself
Going onto Social Media is like the first day at school. It's going to be awkward as hell and you'll strike up so many weird artificial conversations getting to know people - Retweeing people, asking inane questions, say inane stuff. But, in time, you'll get comfy. You'll make friends. You'll find interesting people to follow who post things you can naturally say interesting things to, and who you want to say interesting things to. It's just a matter of toughing out those first few weeks of pointless pap.
At which point (to switch metaphors) it's like going to a bar when you're single. If you're going solely to not be single, it's miserable. You're anxious, you've got nothing to say, it's dispiriting when you don't get anywhere - just like being on social media solely to advertise. But if you're going to have a good time and be with your friends, then it's ok - and in all likelihood, the person having fun and being fun is probably going to have more luck finding someone than the person who just goes around hitting on others. Just like the person using Social Media to have fun will advertise better than the person solely advertising.
I guess the Tl;dr version of that would be - Take the plunge, get through the awkward, learn to enjoy it and things will happen.

Re: Fantasy Language
If you're just using it in spots, what spots are you going to use it in?
Also, if you're going to do it in any form, then find some expert guidance. The guy who invented the Dothraki language for GoT has a book out that you can get for 3 bucks here - http://www.amazon.com/The-Art-Language-Invention-World-Building/dp/0143126466 - and there's web pages here - http://www.zompist.com/kit.html
(No idea they're any good - hopefully SugoiMe could point to some good resources?)

I could never do without my lonely commuter time
Or as I liked to call it, 500 words each way.

Re: JMack Will Kill Off the Character You Choose!
Jmack told me to vote, so I did, because good things seem to happen when I do what Jmack did.
I voted for the evil enchanter who makes people believe they're household pets, because no one wants to see a grown-ass man trying to catch mice with his teeth.
Although I now regret making my choice so quickly as voting for Jmack to get his Scrubs Janitor on with the Squirrels would have been funny, if only because I'm a horrible person. But I didn't, so need to fight me ScarletBea...
*scratches beard* Maybe I'll read some of them now.

Re: The King's Paws
Besides Martin has way more pressure now since the show came out to be a huge hit. I don't envy his position. The winds of winter will be cut to pieces and examined in great detail.
On the one hand, I completely agree.
On the other, he didn't have to agree to a TV show and the extra pressure it was bound to create. And I say that in the full knowledge that I'd have agreed to a TV show in his shoes too - it was still his choice to end up there.
I'm roughly where Hedin is. I've got my emotion out of the way and Martin lost my interest with the last one. Good luck to him, maybe he'll write something I want to read in time.
Also, having scrolled back to see this was about deadlines...
I did everything the night before in Uni - the worst being three separate essays - until I reached my Dissertations. Where I did 75pc of them the night before. I wish I had the discipline to be better about that, the only essay I didn't do that with got a Distinction during my Masters.
