Re: Favorite fantasy books with unusual settings
wow.  i've hardly read any of the books everyone is pointing out.

personally, one that's always stuck with me over the years is the death gate cycle from the 90s by weis and hickman.

https://www.goodreads.com/series/41764-the-death-gate-cycle

the whole multi-tier, sundered-by-elements world with a bonus multi-level prison was pretty crazy.  i should take the time someday (ha!) and re-read that series.  i remember thoroughly loving it.  see if it holds up.

This series got me into reading, look at me now haha.I'm not fond of the second book in the series through.

Same for me. This series and The Renshai Trilogy by Mickey Zucker Reichert are what got me into reading fantasy. Although I barely remember what happens in either series.

Re: What were your first fantasy books? I read the Chronicles of Narnia and Lord of the Rings first. I liked them, but they didn't start my addiction. My addiction started with Raymond Feist's Riftwar Saga. After that I read Tracy Hickman and Margaret Weiss and the rest is history.

Re: Favorite The whole idea behind the story in Horns by Joe Hill was pretty original I thought. One of those books where I kept thinking... where is he going with this?

Re: What did you read in February? Come share your list and thoughts Red Harvest - Joe Schreiber  3/5

The Night Eternal - Guillermo del Toro  3/5

Caine's Law - Matthew Stover  5/5

Prince of Thorns - Mark Lawrence  5/5

Breakthroughs - Harry Turtledove  4/5

Horns - Joe Hill  5/5

Good month. Got a lot of reading done. Had a couple of disappointments but also a couple of gems. I really liked Prince of Thorns and Horns, and of course I absolutely loved the entire Acts of Caine series, Caine's Law being the final book. The final book was confusing in parts but ultimately satisfying.

Re: What did you read in October? Your list and thoughts on last months books Delaney, you hit that on the head. Echoed my thoughts almost exactly when I read those books. One of my all time favorite fantasy series.

Re: Pick a book for me! (Eclipse) I can't believe more people haven't voted for Heroes Die. One of if not my favorite fantasy series ever. It's very violent so maybe it's not for everyone. Regardless, that was my vote.

I don't think very many people have read it. The only time I seem to see it mentioned is in the context "why haven't more people read Heroes Die/Acts of Caine?"

(In my case, the three I haven't read (Heroes Die, Thousand Names and Beyond Redemption) are all on my Amazon wishlist. I've been close to buying The Thousand Names recently, but I'm trying to keep a lid on my acquisitions so have held off until I read some more of the hundreds of unread books I already own.)

Heroes Die is the only one I've read on that list. Emperor's Blades is on my list though. Heard of Thousand Names.
