Re: Most satisfying character arcs you’ve read? Moist von Lipwig - Terry Pratchett

FitzChivalry Farseer - Robin Hobb

Sigrud je Harkvaldsson - Robert Jackson Bennett

Druss and Jon Shannow - David Gemmell

Atticus O'Sullivan - Kevin Hearne

Croaker - Glen Cook

Mat Cauthon - Robert Jordan

And there was this steampunk quadrology about a pirate captain, I can't remember.

I belive you're thinking about Darian Frey from Chris Wooding's Tales of the Ketty Jay series.

Nail on the head. Thanks.

Re: What is it with brothels and the fantasy genre? It has its roots in reality. They don't call that world's oldest profession for no reason.

They were part of accepted social structure in olden times. Geisha in Japan, harems in Arabia etc...but 'courtesans' as popularly known in many  monarchial or feudal regimes of old times form a integral part of the society. In many cases, like Geisha for example...they are so much more than just "whores" as indicated in many books. They are reputed to be capable of intelligent conversation, Good in singing and dancing etc with sex being just part of their duties.

The 'Perfumed Quarter' primarily adds to the realism of the story weaving and is also a convenient way to do other shady businesses.

"Next time you die, please will you come and eat your breakfast?"

is not a question I ever imagined I would be asking. It is cold and grey here this week and my family is obsessed with Fortnite. I even back-seat battle from the sidelines.

Awesome. I downloaded this over the weekend. Me and missus ordered pizza and spent all of Sunday playing this. We both suck at this, but laugh every time we die.

Re: What are you currently reading?
Took a break from Fantasy and read Lee Child's The Midnight Line. Love those Jack Reacher books.

I was gifted a Mitch Rapp (character name) book, and I also found a “Grey Man” book for cheap. With the addition of a Jesse Stone (character name) novel, I’ve been on quite an excursion from fantasy into the world of macho modern heroes. And I love the Lee Child books, too.

Mitch Rapp is awesome. I've got great fondness to Rapp, Reacher and Dresden.

I like Jack Reacher but he was ruined for me when film came out because I cannot get Tom Cruise out of my mind when reading. I had always imagined Jack more on lines of Clint Eastwood.

Yeah. Cruise ruined the character for me. I had to watch the first movie to kill time on a flight and never again. He ruined both Reacher and Mummy series for me.

I had Reacher like a more bulky Die Hard Bruce Willis'esque.

Re: The King's Paws (with one holding a bottle of Peri Peri sauce.)
Just saw a kid in Paris floss. It's everywhere ...

Come on @Bender, confess you've had a go ?  I even tried, but nearly fell over. ;D
Eli, it's a victory dance your character can do in Fortnite.

The very thought of it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Gimme my Assault Rifle and see what I do to them.

So just me and @Lady_Ty know what flossing is?! I call shenanigans. All of you are just too cool for school.

You were talking about the dance, right?  :o
