Re: Depression, Struggles and Light at the End of Every Tunnel
So I updated my website and all of my customizations were erased.

In particular there's this black square arrow icon that needs to be a yellow icon in a grey circle.  I could not remember how I changed it last time (other than that it took me like 12 hours) and I couldn't find any reference to the arrow in any of the CSS.  In my attempt to modify CSS within Wordpress, not only did I fail to turn the square into a circle, I BROKE THE WHOLE DAMN SITE.

I'm on hold for 20 min right now just to see if I can undo all the work I did over the last 8 hours with a back-up.  Seriously I'm dumb af. I want to bang my head into a wall.

You are not dumb, wordpress just sucks with customization, at least so much that I quit the whole web dev branche because the stress and exhaustion from stupid things like that wasnt paid enough.

So having restored to backup 7 times now I have discovered:

1) the plugin that broke my site had nothing to do with the circle I was trying to make out of a square
2) updating the plug-in breaks my site
3) uninstalling the plug-in that broke my site ALSO breaks my site
4) I have no frigging idea where I coded that circle, even after looking for 8 hours
5) Restoring to several days ago returns the circle
6) Updating the plugin that the icon in question comes from actually does *not* undo my custom code and turn the circle into the square
7) Updating some totally random OTHER plugin (of the 19 that needed updating) is what destroys my code and eliminates my circle.
8) my brain is melting
9) trying to make a number 8 on here with an "8 )"  produces an 8)

Re: Miscellaneous Musings about Books
Not sure if it's me or anything, but I've ran across a boatload of DNFs and disappointments in both books and tv shows lately (mostly books). I'm feeling pretty apprehensive about trying anything new, and do hope that things will get better from here.

Am I having a reading slump?  ???

Should I:

a. Stick with what I'm reading. (which is okayyy I guess)

b. Move to read the Reckoners series, which is the last series by Brandon Sanderson that I haven't plunged into yet. I'd ran out of his novels to read after this, though.  :'(

C. Write something new that hits all the buttons and is what you really want to read right now

Re: Depression, Struggles and Light at the End of Every Tunnel Haha this time I'm not being overworked (or paid) the website is for me.  I'm just too stubborn to sleep properly

I thought of you and your fridge today @ScarletBea

I was on the phone with Google for fourty minutes (for the 3rd time) for them to tell me that their return policy has changed and they can't replace my defective headphone dongle for my pixel phone. My HD is defective in my Mac so I walked 30 min to the computer repair place to pick it up and return it to the manufacturer (another series of calls) and no one is here. My muffler fell off so I took my car in on Sunday but the mechanic hasn't been in to work for days and isn't returning my calls. And my faucet has been leaking for 6 months now. I want to bang my face into the wall

Re: What are you currently reading? Yes.
It's like taking acid but without the risk of permanent psychosis and flashbacks.

Re: Member birthday calendar
So Bradley was right? Should I add you to the calendar?

And more pressing: How do you know when you're going to die? ;)

Ha, I remember that at the time I signed up for F-F, I was paranoid about giving out my birthdate, since it can be used as a security question. Given my info has already been leaked by corporations a dozen times by now, it probably no longer matters. But yup, birthday is January 5, and I am now officially 41.

My thinking is I'll kick off right about 82. I could probably live longer if I stopped eating bacon cheeseburgers and pizza and other delicious food, but those years are sucky years where you can't really move about well and generally quality of life is poor. So I figure I'll be much happier enjoying my bacon cheeseburgers now and skipping the old age applesauce. :)

Sorry Teb-- I didn't realize you didn't have your bday on the list when I oh-so-indiscreetly leaked your bday. Perhaps we should put your bday as a couple of days earlier than it really is-- that'll protect your identity and also around here most ppl will actually wish you a on time that way

Re: What are you currently watching? I thought it was really good.

Spoiler for Hiden:
When she kills her godfather or whatever he is to her... wow.
What I didn't like: the part when the Man in the High Castle starts gushing over her. b/c he seemed to despise her when he first met her. It also makes things suffer from these sort of masturbatory protagonist centered yarns I hate.  It makes no sense.  it would be way better if he didn't lay it all out like that and didn't completely understand everything himself
But I thought everything else was pretty damn awesome.

PS Please let Frank be dead I can't stand him.

Haven't watched any of season 3

Re: Depression, Struggles and Light at the End of Every Tunnel @Slaykomimi wow that is elaborate. I don't have your survival skills. I think I would starve to death without frozen food.

@JMack   Fun fact: When I was a senior in high school I went to night school to become an EMT (Emergency Medical Tech). At one point we do clinicals in an ER shadowing an ER tech.  So my very first night in an ER we had a guy come in with a blood clot that got lodged in his urethra and hadn't been able to pee for ages.  They just gave it to the techs to handle.

Spoiler for Hiden:
So the tech I was shadowing kept grabbing larger and larger catheters, jabbing it into this dude's penis basically caving the whole thing in while he was in agony until he broke up the clot.  I was trying so hard to keep a straight face and not to turn green.  It was...um... not easy to watch.

Anyways when I worked in hospitals during summers at college I was one of the few males so that made me very popular with the elderly ladies who suddenly couldn't reach their breasts during bath time and also anytime a dude needed a catheter.  Apparently I was very good at it, and much gentler than the female nurses/clinical associates.

So now you know my secret talent.

Re: What are you currently watching?
@Justan Henner , sounds like @Not Lu  and I have similar sensibilities!
I watched a couple of episodes of Season 3. I have to say I loved S1 and S2, but S3 feels like lazy writing, some of the characters don't feel like themselves, and while it's hard to oppose the "chosen one" trope on a fantasy board (i mean too many good classics fit the trope) it doesn't quite land coming in so late, and they didn't really need it. I do like the protagonist tho, and i find her demure cautious moments to be endearing.

Futureman Season 2 is hilarious.
In 2062 everyone is dumb af.  I have to say as I was watching it I kept thinking that if someone time traveled from the 90s to the present day tide pod/bird box challenge/alt facts/reality tv/meme generation they might feel more or less the same as the heroes of Futureman.....
