Re: How much did you write today? 654 today. Still no where near the climax of my 4K story and I'm at 3,886 words. Might have to try a complete rewrite from scratch to get it under 4k.

This may help you all concentrate

The Isolator is a bizarre helmet invented in 1925 that encourages focus and concentration by rendering the wearer deaf, piping them full of oxygen, and limiting their vision to a tiny horizontal slit. The Isolator was invented by Hugo Gernsback, editor of Science and Invention magazine, member of “The American Physical Society,” and one of the pioneers of science fiction.

Okay, we totally need to Kickstart The Isolator MKII

Re: Fantasy Grounds? It's more of a utility/software deal than game.  It's an interface for running Tabletop RPGs online. The GM buys the main licence and there are a whole variety of different rulesets that you buy that are then integrated into the Fantasy Grounds software. I can't remember if each player also has to buy a licence or if the GM's covers his group.

It looks slick and all and has a lot of support, but it always seemed too pricey for my liking. Plus, I'm not really into map/grids and minis preferring a theater of the mind style when handling combats. These days if I play online I just use G+ hangouts. There's a free RPG tool for that called Roll 20 which is cool, but again I don't need maps, or dice apps, or any fancy stuff as I play mostly old school games and style.

Re: Sharing Your Writing Process
I usually daydream a lot about an idea or a character until they seem real enough to put to paper.

This is a subject that really interests me, doesn't get talked about much, and is, I think, one of the most important parts of a writer's process. Yet when answering this question I went straight to the mechanical/craft side of things rather than considering the more creative and esoteric side that is the dreaming the story. There have been a couple of times when I've been blocked on a story that have purely been down to not giving myself enough time to engage in the dream.

Re: How much did you write today? 654 today. Not bad. Going to be aiming for a page/250 words a day for the rest of the week as I have a non-fic RPG project that needs some attention.

Re: Do long series have to be that long? Again I'll chime in with the 'if it's good' chorus. If I like a world and it characters it's great to see more and there was something glorious about binge reading Malazan. I also enjoyed reading a big chunks of Katherine Kerr's Deverry series too.

Some writers like Lawrence, Hobb and Abecrombie have the best of both worlds by writing trilogies and stand alones in the same worlds with characters that overlap stories or make cameo appearances which is very cool.

Re: Calling All Maps! This is the cloth version of the map for my Redwald/Wulfwald setting . . .

It's from the back of the book . . .

I don't have decent digital version at the moment only these crappy pictures I took.

Cloth? Wow did you paint it yourself?

that map is beautiful, the texture makes such a difference as well as all your detail. ;D

Not my detail as I can't paint or draw or map (or adult). It's the map of my world/setting but I didn't draw it I just described what I wanted. The Cartographer is the very excellent Doug Anderson and the publisher (the very very brilliant CR Brandon) sent me the cloth version along with my comp copies, and a very nice leather writer's bag and some cool wooden dice. I assume he used the digital copy of the map and printed it on what we Brits would call a tea towel via Cafepress or the like.

I can't see those...  :(
Me neither.  :(
There must be something wrong with Finland.  ??? ;)

Maybe it's Google photos that is the problem? I linked them using the boards html and avoided Google's short webaddys, but maybe it's just general google photo suckage.

Re: How much did you write today? Hmmm. 4 words today. Not optimal.
