Twelve votes for twelve months. Somehow fitting but still not really much.

Should I leave it open for even longer and do the following things?
- Make a blog post on the main site
- Write a message to all participants of the last year (over 50) to come and vote?

I'm in 2 minds about this...

Yes, I get that it's not much, but:
- the vote has been open for 3 whole months
- there have been regular reminders on the forum section where most people go
- I doubt that readers of the main site that don't come to the forums will come just to vote (having to become members, etc)

In a way, the current voters must be the people that 'live and breathe' the forums and the regular contests, so it's fitting they get to decide.
The winner then goes on the main site, and there you may highlight the monthly contest again - and maybe then we'll get more regular writers/readers/voters (monthly) and maybe then next year's yearly vote will be higher.

(and by the way, I've just checked, the last monthly winner published on the main site was August's, posted in December - that's a full 4 stories missed from the main site - unless they were tagged differently and I've just missed them)

So basically my opinion is, no, close it and let's have a winner now

I think @ScarletBea summed it up pretty well. It may not feel so special to win with 12 votes, but then again, the Monthly Writing Contest keeps going because of the people that take the time each month to submit their stories, but also because of the ones who take their time to read each story and vote (and also because there's a mod willing to organize it all  )

It's only fair that the forum inhabitants are the ones who get to vote on this.

However, if you have any idea of how to bring more of the forum regulars to vote, it would be great. But I can't help you there
