My voting Pattern
« on: September 19, 2015, 05:43:47 PM »
I try and not look at the poster name or sig until I've read everyone's stories

I have Voted in 5 contest now ([AUG 2015] Space Opera,[MAY 2015] Fairytales,[APR 2015] - Plot Twist! Werewolf, Vampire, Goat, [MAR 2015] Rogues,[FEB 2015] Fanfic

I have Voted for 17 stories all together

I have voted for 15 authors all together

In three out of the  5 contest I have voted for the same author (will this be 4 out of 6 after "Politics, Scheming, and Intrigue" who knows haha)

In two out of the 5 contest I have voted for the same author

Ooh interesting.

Contests voted in: 8 (Dec 2014 onwards, haven't voted in Space Opera yet)
Stories voted for: 19
Authors voted for: 13
Multiple votes for particular authors: I've voted for one author 5 times (didn't realise that until now, crazy  :o ), and two others twice.

You now have a new Favourite author  :D buy their novels if there have one or if not tell them to write one :)

Actually I've read a couple of chapters of that person's novel (in progress) and really enjoyed them as well, just didn't realise that I'd enjoyed so many of the short stories too.  :P

Maybe I should send a Pm to say how much I enjoy the stories I've read of this author, I was quite surprised when I found out I was voting for the same person because I don't look at the names when reading the contests

Yeah I don't look at the names either, definitely best that way.  :)

This is a very cool thread!!

Contests voted in: 17 (March 2014 onwards, haven't voted in Space Opera yet)
Stories voted for: 49
Authors voted for: 24
Multiple votes for particular authors: The top 3 'multiples' are one author with 7 times (again, like others, I didn't realise that until now), then two authors 4 times, and five others with 3 votes each.

Wow!
I don't even want to count how many words I've read in this 1.5 years, they should add to my 'books per year' number :D

Is there a quick way to find this data? Or are you guys just going back through all the contests and writing down these figures?

Okay, so I've worked out my voting stats and here they are:

Contests voted in: 18 (starting with February 2014)
Stories voted for: 45
Authors voted for: 37
Multiple votes for particular authors: One author with five votes (which I didn't realize until now), two authors with three votes, five authors with two votes.

man.  for a data nerd, this is a fascinating thread.

i just wish i had more than two contests (i am waiting to vote on the space opera) i've voted in so far so my data would be interesting.

the way i was doing it was to order all the stories (with a couple sentences of reminders and my thoughts) and just pick the top n stories, where n is the number of votes that month.  i was under the impression we HAD to use all of our votes.  now that i've discovered (thanks raptori!) that we don't need to, i don't think i will.  both times, there's been a clear cutoff, but i end up voting for the best of that second tier too.  from here on out, i'm just voting for my 5-stars.

Contests voted in: 2 (starting with June 2015)
Stories voted for: 11
Authors voted for: 10
Multiple votes for particular authors: i've only voted for one author twice, and both times they got my last vote.

Here we go. My calculations interrupted by going to a local wine festival, but I think I'm still calculating accurately.   8)

Contests voted in: 10 including this August, starting with November last year
Stories voted for: 37
Authors voted for: 19... which is out 55 possible authors, or about 33% (possible authors excludes me)
Multiple votes: one author 5 times out of 6 possible! wow; 5 authors 3 times each, 4 authors 2 times each

For the stat nerds, of the 56 authors (including me):
   > 30 submitted 1 story only
   > 3 submitted 2 stories
   > 4 submitted 3 stories
   > 5 submitted 5 stories
   > 2 submitted 6 stories
   > 3 submitted 7 stories
   > 2 submitted 8 stories
   > 1 submitted 9 stories (Raptori)
   > 2 submitted 10 stories (@Elfy and me)

And as a final stat about my votes, there were 11 possible winners I could have voted for (excludes August and a win and a tie by me). I voted for 4 of them.

(It's clear I can't calculate. I didn't do a spreadsheet. Someone should do the official all-time writing contest history stats. Not me.)

Dating back to September 2013 - those strange times when there was one vote per person and you could watch the results as they came in:

Contests voted in: 20
Stories voted for: 47
Authors voted for: 31
Multiple votes: one 5, four 3s, four 2s

The way it fell out took me a little by surprise and it was interesting looking back to see how my votes spread out (and, in egotistical style, what happened to my own relative position over the last couple of years).
