Did we just discover Overlord's new girlfriend up there ^? Okay, despite the whole 'Germany is a long way from England' thing...  ;D

Okay, I'm officially confused.
Hiro (meeting himself in the future): I look upset.
Ando: Go. Talk to yourself.
Hiro: No way... I scare me. You do it.

Me and missoularedhead silly?i m beginning to imagine a fantasy faction convention, which has autumn2may being the bossy serious one organising everything and taking it very seriously, and me and missoularedhead pulling faces at each other during the more boring speakers and misleading everyone in all night drinking sessions :-P lol

First of all:

Welcome new peoples!

Having made an on topic post... ;)

You underestimate how much our minds get warped by living on our tiny island. I know people who consider dating someone who lives just 20 miles away to be a 'long distance' relationship. We'll spend hours planning journeys your average North American, Australian, German, Pole or Russian would travel for a spur of the moment fast food run.
I am NOT short. I'm further away than I look.

That is true. I remember as a kid thinking an hour drive to the coast was long!there should be more trans European romances I feel.especially within the EU when you dont even need a passport to travel within now.

Generally speaking when I say something they don't like my friends just say "Yes Mom!" :)  Also a Fantasy Faction convention would be 100% awesome! :D  But you still need to stop confusing the new recruits and play nice! :P

I live on a giant continent and I know people who have never left the town they were born in!  Long distance dating to them is someone who lives far enough away that you need to drive.  ;D

Edit* Oh yeah, and stay on topic! ;)

Hey y'all!

Thanks for the forum - I'm Shanothaine (real name Marius) from South Africa. I'm so glad that there is actually a platform like this where we can share our passion and live in each other's stories. Good job everyone (especially Overlord, thanks!)

Hope to be reading a lot from everyone!

Have a great week!

Hello,

I'm from Tasmania [small island below Australia]. I am likely not alone here [i hope] in being one that reads far more speculative fiction than is healthy. To get it out in the open first thing, China Mieville stands head and shoulders above all living practitioners of the genre in my humble opinion. All who could hope to rival him are dead. Other SF authors I like very much include, in no particular order:

H.P. Lovecraft
Phillip K. Dick
Mervyn Peake
Neil Gaiman
George R. R. Martin
Joe Abercrombie
Liz Williams
Gene Wolfe
Robert E. Howard
H. G. Wells
Alan Moore
Mark Charan Newton

I also like me some classics; Homer, Aeschylus, Herodotus etc. for much the same reason I like SF. Another world and all that; plus they tend to write much better than most modern writers, despite not having 2500 years of human literary development to build upon.

Finally, I am a bit of a political animal, with a particular interest in and orientation towards marxist politics. Mieville is no small influence there. I don't know how well that rolls on this forum, in terms of whether politics ever comes into discussions of SF, but I am always keen for a chat on the subject.

Anyhow, that's it. Looking forward to it and all that.
