Just wanted to introduce myself.  Like others here I've found this forum via twitter.  It'll be good to have people to discuss fantasy with.

Great I found this thread :D
I found this forum via Twitter and I have to admit it, I like it ;) I'm a 22 years old student of English at a teachers school but surely I won't be teaching after it. I want to go to a higher level of schooling and become a Polish-English translator. If not that I can take up being a photographer or maybe a professional book writer. Who knows how my life will turn out :D

But for now I just want to finish studying AND finish at least one story that I write, as I don't like to write just short stories and already tried to write several novels in both Polish and English but I see it personally that I like my writing in English more. For me it's easier to write. Well I hope that I'll be able to post something here or on my blog pretty soon. I post on Twitter whenever i write something and it's not just pieces of my stories. You can find me as ArthumInglorion ;)

Oops, I missed this thread. <blush>

Let's see... um.. not much to tell really. :) I live in TX for the moment but have plans to move back to the UK (since that's where hubby is from) I work full time in insurance and write whenever I have the chance. :) I love fantasy and many other genres. I do write (when time is in my favor) and have some books published. I'm hoping to land an agent at some point but the market is very tight so getting one isn't very easy.

Past that not much else really to say.  ;D

Oh hey, I should introduce myself.

I'm Kysis, aka Tiffany, and I'm a university student studying Creative Writing: Prose and Film.  I travel, scuba dive, draw, and of course, write.  Fantasy is my main genre (specifically epic fantasy with a philosophical bent), though I also touch on soft/sociological sci-fi, and paranormal crime thrillers.

Though I'm not published yet, I am actively sending out queries.  Hopefully I can entertain an editor soon.   Haha.  I'll keep trying, either way.

Nice to meet you Tiffany :) Have you ever taken an online writing course? Like you... I do English Literature and Creative Writing at University, but I see tons of online writing courses and always fancy giving one a go (places like Gotham, London School of Journalism and so on have specialisation in novel writing, etc).

I have not taken any of the online courses, though I've been looking at writing conferences I could possibly go to, which usually have crazy cram packed seminars, which might be interesting.  Conferences are sooooo expensive, though. x_x

The grad program I'm looking at does have a novel workshop, which is one-on-one from the looks of it, however, I am worried that the professor I may get stuck with could be a hater of genre fiction, which will definitely make me flounder at that book length.  I can stand lit fic at the short story level, but a full novel?!?!

The online courses might be interesting, though, especially if there are any genre specific ones.

I was interested in information on conferences as well.  Anyone know any good ones on the East Coast of the US?

Greeting from the Deep South of the United States,

I am a 39 YO father of two and husband of one for the last 15 years. We live in central Alabama in the USA. I found the site through GoodReads [michaelramm, there] and i do have a review blog that I am going to attempt to resurrect this year.[http://soyoulovetoread.wordpress.com]

I love fantasy and annually read The Lord of the Rings. I am using 2011 to expand my fantasy readership so I have compiled a list of some of the fantasy masters and am going to read some from them. I have linked that list elsewhere on the forums and it is on my blog sidebar.

Just finished The Way of the Shadow by Brent Weeks [AWESOME!!] and I am halfway thorough The Erevis Cale Trilogy by Paul S. Kemp [Amazing Forgotten Realms author and story]. I will be receiving my copies of The Way of Kings [Sanderson] and The Black Prism [Weeks] today in the mail, so I will hopefully break those open soon.

I plan on either (1) getting a Kindle in February or (2) taking over my 8YO son's nook that he got for Christmas because of unuse. I don't think that he will use it much, but time will tell. I am holding off on buying any new books until the eReader situation is worked out, so I am going through my TBR shelves for reading material.

I look forward to watching the community grow and helping do my part in that!

Michael

Greetings from the Deep South of Texas.

I am a 38 YO father of one and husband of two...nah, I'm just kidding...I don't have any kids. No, I'm kidding again. I do have one daughter and just one wife.

At any rate, I've been reading fantasy regularly since my early twenties, though I did read The Hobbit, LotR and The Chronicles of Narnia as a kid.

I consider myself pretty well-read within the fantasy genre, having read somewhere in the 275-300 book range, and yet there are still more fantasy books that I haven't read, and want to, than those that I have. One of my lifelong goals is to get caught up on that list of books, but I have doubts about the feasibility of that goal.

I'm always looking for new fantasy forums to check out, but most don't really have a lot to offer. Here's hoping this one will be an exception.
