Hello, I'm new.  ;)

I stumbled across this forum via twitter and joined mere seconds later. I've been looking for a place where I can talk to people who like the same kinds of things that I do, sadly they are few and far between in my hometown. I'm a fantasy junkie and lifelong book addict. My mother, bless the woman, taught me to read when I was three and I don't think she was ever able to get my nose out of a book after that!

I positively adore high/epic fantasy, steampunk, sci-fi, space operas, historical fantasy... you name it.

Favorite books are;

Ender's Game, by the brilliant Orson Scott Card
Warlock is Spite of Himself by the lesser known, but equally brilliant Christopher Stasheff
And
Magnus by Sigmund Brouwer, which is not fantasy at all, and out of print so you can't really find it anywhere.

I'm an aspiring author, and while I'm working on that I talk about other books on my blog, the Ebook Apothecary.

Oh, and my name is Beth, but online I toddle around as Theriaka.

Pleased to be here!

Welcome Testwood!  Glad you found us!  Are you going to join the book club this month?  We actually have three books to choose from for September. :)

I am joining this month, yes. I've ordered 'Nights of Villjamur', just awaiting receipt of it now. Gutted I missed out on 'The Lies of Lock Lamora' month, I don't think I've enjoyed another book as much as that in the last couple of years.

My name's Mark by the way, I forgot to mention that in the original post!

Hi Mark!  You can actually still comment on the old book club threads, people still pop in and out as they read them.  Also there is a Lies of Lock Lamora thread if you'd like to bring that back to life.  Overlord is a big fan. :)

Hi there, I'm Lou (Australia) and nu to fantasy... I was one of those people who rolled my eyes when ever my friend tried to talk to me about knights and Faeries and alternate worlds.  It was like she was trying to sell me religion or Amway, but im glad to say I have seen the light!!! And have been running towards it these past few months.  While I'm not embarrassed to say I read fantasy I do feel more than a little awkward sometimes because I didn't start when I was young and now that im middle aged i feel that I've been left behind...

Introductions;
My utmost fave book as a kid: Princess Bride (still a bit partial to reading it every now and again, I'm a girl what can I say!)
My fave ATT Prince of Thorns, read at Overlords suggestion, thumbs up to that dark stuff
Next, well it took me a while to work out what WoT was and now that I've found it... OMG, how many books are there?! It seems daunting after ASOIAF.

Anyhoo, off to visit WoT. Great website.

Welcome! Lots of great stuff out there.  I almost wish I hadn't started so young, I'd have so much MORE to read now.  Lots of great blogs out there to help you sort through the good stuff and bad.  You'll have the advantage of not wading through some of the shit the rest of us did.

Greetings all!

I am new to the board, but not new to fantasy. I have been reading epic fantasy since I was 12 and haven't stopped (it drives my wife crazy that we have a bookshelf with nothing but fantasy, but what can you do?)

I love that I have found a board where people don't think Sci/Fi and fantasy are the same thing. I think I'll like it here.

Hi I am new here.  I am a writer(if I can call myself that yet) who loves fantasy books.  I read about four or five fantasy books a month.  Typically I prefer epic fantasy books and series.  To be honest with you I am a fantasy series addict.  I hate waiting for new books to come out.

Right now I am waiting for Jon Sprunk to release his new book on the kindle so I can download it.  ;D

My website is currently under construction but can be seen here: www.danieljking.com

Thank for letting me be apart of this site.  I already took the opportunity to post in the writing challenge for August.

Hi, everyone. I'm Paolo, and I'll be contributing book reviews to the Faction starting this month (my take on Harry Connolly's "Child of Fire" should be up on the 23rd), so I thought I'd swing by the forums and introduce myself. I'm a fantasy and science fiction writer from the Philippines, and I've been a fan since I was a child (first Fantasy novel: "The Sleeping Dragon" by Joel Rosenberg).

I am a slush reader for Fantasy Magazine (http://www.fantasy-magazine.com/), and I run Rocket Kapre http://www.rocketkapre.com/, which is both a small publishing house (our first commercial anthology will be published later this year) and a blog that promotes speculative fiction (prose and comics) by Filipino authors. I'm looking forward to being a part of the Faction, and discussing fantasy with all of you.

Welcome aboard!

Anitero, have you done anything with the WorldSF team? They always seem to be on the lookout for good reviewers, readers, editors, etc. with an international perspective... http://worldsf.wordpress.com/

DJK, I saw that you entered the writing challenge - way to enter with a splash (couldn't resist).

Welcome!

I was interviewed by Rochtia Loenen-Ruiz for the WorldSF Blog, if that counts :) Charles Tan (Bibliophile Stalker) helps update the WorldSF Blog, and he usually ensures that the Philippine perspective is represented there, and if I come up with anything on RocketKapre that he finds newsworthy, I trust he'll put it up. Hopefully, I can eventually help provide that international perspective here on the Faction as well.

Hi everyone, I'm Chris, from Canada.

I've been lurking for a few weeks, and finally decided to step out from the shadows.  I've been a fan of fantasy for a long time, a writer for a few years (as of yet unpublished).  I like what I see here - it seems a friendly, respectful community with lots of people passionate about the genre.

I'm looking forward to procrastinating here.
