We're going to get along very, very well indeed. :)

Hello,

I'm from Tasmania [small island below Australia]. I am likely not alone here [i hope] in being one that reads far more speculative fiction than is healthy. To get it out in the open first thing, China Mieville stands head and shoulders above all living practitioners of the genre in my humble opinion. All who could hope to rival him are dead. Other SF authors I like very much include, in no particular order:

H.P. Lovecraft
Phillip K. Dick
Mervyn Peake
Neil Gaiman
George R. R. Martin
Joe Abercrombie
Liz Williams
Gene Wolfe
Robert E. Howard
H. G. Wells
Alan Moore
Mark Charan Newton

I also like me some classics; Homer, Aeschylus, Herodotus etc. for much the same reason I like SF. Another world and all that; plus they tend to write much better than most modern writers, despite not having 2500 years of human literary development to build upon.

Finally, I am a bit of a political animal, with a particular interest in and orientation towards marxist politics. Mieville is no small influence there. I don't know how well that rolls on this forum, in terms of whether politics ever comes into discussions of SF, but I am always keen for a chat on the subject.

Anyhow, that's it. Looking forward to it and all that.

Hello,

I'm pretty new to the boards although I have been following you guys on Twitter for a bit and my brother writes some articles for you guys (he's the one who's been writing about dragons lol~)

I live in the UK and discovered fantasy through Tolkein when I was in my teens; not really stopped reading it since! Love a variety of authors from Patrick Rothfuss to Marc Charan Newton passing by Blake Charlton and many others.

I study Psychology at the moment but also aim to hopefully be a published fantasy writer one day!

The name's Alek btw, Kvothe is kinda like one of my favourite characters of all time~!

Haha yes I am, he dragged me out of anti-social cave after I showed half an ounce of interest in maybe writing an article for this place. So I decided I'd have a look around and see what was going on here XD

Hello hello!  New here, after seeing the adverts on twitter from time to time I thought I'd pop in and give a hallo and take part.

I'm an artist, disabled advocate, gardener, mum and when I actually have time left over from all that I write as well.  I took several years off from writing to concentrate on parenting, but now I've decided to do my best to get some work out there again whilst I still have the chance.  I've always done traditional publication in the past but I'm now dipping a toe into the e-publication circles (though I am still looking for interstitial publishers).

I tend to gravitate towards the stuff people don't seem to read much anymore: I'm not a YA fan really, and I like big words!  Tolkein, Mervyn Peake, Holdstock, Tanith Lee, Moorcock - if it's obscure, I'm interested!

Just wanted to give a hello and if you see me on the boards...well, I'm probably procrastinating so tell me get back to work.

Cheers

I wouldn't say I'm new but I don't think I've ever actually introduced myself 0.o

My name is Jamie and I'm one of the staff members.  I have a masters in Creative Writing and I have been writing Fantasy probably as long as I've been reading it (well and able to to write!)  I love anime, video games, and books - though I'm not a big fan of old books because I have allergies and can't appreciate a good musty book because of this.

There are a few people on the forum and many outside the forum that I do editing for yet I am terrible at catching errors in my own writing/articles! =D

I work for the Corporate Man and dream of a day when I can live in my own house with a nice bit of land where I can write, raise some children, and breed my favorite type of dogs: corgis!  (I have two currently).

I have a Nook Color if anyone is interested in being "Nook friends" it's listed at Jamie.L.stahl@gmail.com

And lastly I love talking about books, writing, video games and love meeting/chatting with new people!  So feel free to msg me!

Hi, everyone!

My name is Beth, and I've been following on Twitter and lurking a little bit for a couple months now.  Recently, in the midst of 2 other major life changes, I decided I need to refocus some time my fantasy reading. Of course, being me, I'm now in overkill mode with 3 different book clubs to start next month. Eek!

I'm pretty much into high fantasy and dark fantasy, although I'll read damn near anything if it's good.  My favourite times were before I would leave for my summer trips to my grandmother's house, and my dad would give me $100 to roam this huge bookstore and buy stuff to take with me.  I always went to the Sci-Fi/Fantasy section and looked for authors I had never read.  Always a fun time.

As for the outside stuff, I'm a mom of a 4 year old son, and we make sure we read to him every night and take him to the library once a week.  He loves books, and I hope that carries on to later.  When I was little, my brother would read the "Wizard of Oz" books to me when he was home from college, so I am trying to pick out a series to do that with him in a couple of years.

I'm also back in college, completely changing careers from finance to astrophysics.  Which means I'm leaving my job soon (thank goodness!) and working in a more scientific field.  We're also closing on our first house next month.  Exciting, scary times around here - which is probably why I need some dragons and zombies to deal with!

I look forward to getting to know you guys.  I need more kindred spirits!

Cheers,
Beth
