Strunk & White is very cheap... Elements of Style

Different uses. S&W is good for the fundamentals, Chicago Manual of Style is amazing for digging up the little details about grammar. I really need to get S&W as well though, any serious writer should probably have both.

Hi, I'm new. I'm not sure how I found this forum. I just read "The Name of the Wind" for the first time, loved it, and now I'm thinking about what other great books are waiting for me out there ....

I write a lot of non-fiction at work. Too much reality can get depressing. Perhaps someday I'll pull a Rothfuss and write some brilliant fantasy... or maybe not. In the meantime, thank you all for putting together this lovely place to post.

Cheers,

-bishop

Hi, I'm new.

I go by several different names around the communities and blogosphere, but one or two of you might know me as James, the guy who runs that one blog, Dazed Rambling(s*), and sometimes talks about random things on Twitter. I spend too much time kicking around the internet, not nearly enough time reading, and try my to avoid writing fiction or reviews or posts at all costs 'lest I actually start to resemble the writer I sometimes claim to be.

*People always add an s to the end of the blog's name. I am tempted to adopt it, but I figure people will start dropping the s as soon as I do.

If only. He has a comfortable amount of cash from his previous works to fall back on if he doesn't put out another book. I'd have sixty cents and a very angry fiancée.

Hi,
I'm new here and I thought I might introduce myself. My name is Anna, I'm 23 and I'm from Germany.
I read a lot, but I guess this is true for everyone on this page.  ;) I started to read fantasy at the age of 12 or something around that. I read stories about ghosts and vampires, played TDE, read a lot of Wolfgang Hohlbein and things like that. A few years later, my dad gave me "The Hobbit" as a present and I was hooked on Tolkien ever since.
My favourite books and authors change a lot but right now it comes down to J.R.R. Tolkien, Pat Rothfuss, Peter V. Brett, Brent Weeks and Joe Abercrombie.
I try to write fantasy stories.

Hiro: No way... I scare me. You do it.

It occurred to me that I should probably post here. Hi, I'm new.

The name's Addley; but since nobody ever remembers that you can feel free to call me Addy or Adeline or AC or whatever. I'm a writer and a blogger trying to get a career off the ground following graduation. I write speculative fiction for the most part and have had a fantasy short story published. The books that I'm trying to get an agent for are both YA alternate histories of various levels (one's a very straight-forward AH a'la The Man in the High Tower, while the other's an all-out dieselpunk World War 2 ended by a zombie apocalypse.)

I'm also a huge nerd. And I'm on Twitter.
