    Welcome to the boards Christina,

How do you think the films compare to the books? Are they doing them justice? :)

  • hy folks!
Greez from the very snowy (and cold) vienna (austria - no kangaroos!!  :D) today!
Yes, I'm new and I read fantasy since I'm able to read.
My first fantasy novel was from the great german author called Wolfgang Hohlbein, a story about a fantasy land with dragons and such things (I don't remember the title now - sorry).
My mother told me once:"you have to read it from the from the beginning to the end, don't stop or read other books". I did it - with every book.
I love fantasy, because it gives me the chance to fall into another reality and very often I'm so sad to finish a book, because I don't want to loose my new friends (sounds crazy right?!)
Currently I'm reading the "Nightangel trilogy" book two, but there are less than 100 pages left and then I'm starting the last book (I'm already sad about it - I now I'm a freak).
ok, I think thats it for now.

Please forgive my english - its a bit rusted I think...

    Hey Frankie!

Welcome to the boards mate' :) Fantasy really is the ultimate reading experience for me... I can't really read other fiction books because I just think why not read something factual if it is plausible...? For example if I want to read about Crime I will read an Autobiography of a leading detective who has retired now but wrote good logs of his career... Like you, Fantasy takes me somewhere that no one can 'factually' write about because it is an uniquely crafted world.

I loved the Night Angel Trilogy.. it was... AMAZING!

It's a fair few years since I read the books, so I can't really remember all the exact details of the books, but I did enjoy the first film the best I reckon.

I agree that the first one was the best of all. The new one was quite good - I went with my girlfriend to watch it... she loved the talking rat and it certainly moved a lot faster than Prince Caspian (which we didn't enjoy very much).

Last time I checked if any of his books are translated in english, but there are not many.
If you want to read it in german, be prepared - its as heavy as tolkien in english for none english people... but try it, if you want I can recommend you some of his books (and help you translating it)
but very fascinating about the whole Hohlbein family is that also his wife and his daughter are writing fantasy books. before starting the Nightangel trilogy is read one of Rebecca Hohlbein called "Himmelwärts" ( in english skyward) and its about an angel, a vampire and some other people - and it was so funny!! much more funny than the books of her father... they are more serious...
but if you really want to try german fantasy writers I also can recommend bernhard hennen and his elven triologie - a big fantastic world with elves, orcs and so on, very nice.

I had to read some pretty heavy going German lit at university - Goethe, Brecht, Kafka as well as 18th and 19th century stuff, oh and some medieval German too, so I should be able to cope if I drag out the German dictionary in case I get stuck.   ;D

I'll add the elves books to my ever-expanding to read list.
