Hello,

My name is Steve Jackson.  I work in television and film, but am also a game designer and writer.  I run a writer's seminar and write pretty steadily, most of it not worth reading, but I have my moments.

I love reading and watching Sci-Fi, and Fantasy, and use forums to try and get a handle on what I will be reading in the future.

This is a question I have to ask ... you're not the Steve Jackson that produced games such as Car Wars, right? Because my friends and I used to play the hell out of that.

I know Steve (in a casual way) due to our names.  He told me a joke two years back.  Steve, myself, and a game designer from England named Steve Jackson, were considering how to reduce the confusion of our names.  Steve (SJGames) made the suggestion we all change our names to something unusual, like Gary Gygax.

Steve is a bigger gamer by far than I will ever be.  My biggest title did not top 50k sales.  He sells millions.

That's really funny. I know of a similar case (an author named David Mack, and an artist named David Mack, both of whom worked in the comics industry) and how they eventually agreed to work together to ensure they were never confused for each other. I think it came down to something like David Mack (author) always using his middle initial when he wrote for comics, and David Mack (artist) using his middle initial when he did book covers. Or something to that effect. They made it work.

I guess I'm fortunate my last name is pretty rare.

Welcome! :)

I can think of far worse people to share a name with! Hopefully you will find a lot of good recommendations for new and interesting fiction here.

It has never been a negative except once when I was asked to Keynote at a discussion of Game Design for Suncoast Skirmishes.  When I showed up the forum people were angry because I was not the Steve Jackson but only a Steve Jackson.  I still got free attendance.
