Greetings to all
« on: February 12, 2016, 03:35:43 PM »
Hi! I'm Jake.
I'm a first year Historian studying at the University of East Anglia.
My hobbies include music (I play trumpet & arrange music for Showchoir), Videogames (big fan of MMOs and the Witcher series; no I haven't read the books, yes I want to) and I'm in a DnD campaign with a couple of mates at the mo.

Can't really say I've got an 'all time' favourite book but the Cry of the Icemark series by Stuart Hill was my entrance into the fantasy world as a kid and the last series I really got into was both the Mallorian & Belgariad by David Eddings.

Any book recomendations are good recommendations (I'm a big fan of the Warhammer Fantasy & 40k Horus Heresy novel series too)
Nice to meet you all!

I won't give you any recommendations, since you are about to receive the proverbial firehose of recommendations from a bunch that loves to give them.  ;)

I'll just say - welcome! Make yourself at home. Just put the beanbag chairs back where you found them when you leave.

But then come back!  ;D

Welcome!

I was actually going to say that if you liked the Belgariad, then you'll love The Faithful and the Fallen, by John Gwynne (4 books, 4th still to be released later this year).
People usually say that's the Belgariad like it should have been written, hehe

No more reccs for now...

Ooh! My turn to say the usual! :P
Light Bringer Saga by Brent Weeks, and The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson. The two best series I have ever read.
some notable ones: Riyria Revelations by Michael J. Sullivan, Gentlemen Bastard Sequence by Scott Lynch, The Powder Mage Trilogy by Brian McClellan, The Demon Cycle by Peter V. Brett, The Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks...
Others: The Broken Empire Trilogy by Mark Lawrence, The First Law Trilogy by Joe Abercrombie...
Yep. That's all I have at the moment. You'll get plenty more as people respond.

If you liked the Eddings stuff, give Feist's Magician a try. Tad Williams' Memory, Sorrow and Thorn is also well worth reading in that vein.
I will expand your TBR pile.

Hi Amadi and welcome to the Forum. ;D

Have to throw in a few top urban fantasy recommendations just for a complete change.-

The Iron Druid Series by Kevin Hearne, The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher and The Peter Grant series by Ben AAronovitch. We're all pretty passionate about our favourites  but love trying other people's choices and TBR's get sky high. ;D
