Parker has said that he/she writes in two very separate genres and readers of either would be horrified to find out that they wrote in the other, which is why the pseudonym and the mystery around the gender. I'd love to know what the other genre is, though.

OMG....maybe ...EL James? :D

Would people really be horrified? I'd probably think 'Oh good, more books from an author I like' or something, but then perhaps I am not your usual reader. Plenty of people give me 'the look' when I say under my own name I write romance (well sorta). It was more a marketing thing for my pen name in the end: the books have very different anticipated audiences (though there might be some crossover, it'd probably be quite small) and you don't want people to think they are getting one kind of book, then end up with something wildly different.

So, yeah, could be romance of some sort? Lots of people won;t even admit to reading it, never mind writing it...

Maybe Mills&Boon books?

I was thinking much the same thing - which genres could possibly horrify a fan of KJP's rather serious, non-magical fantasy, and vice versa? Contemporary literary fiction, maybe? Although I don't think KJP's readership are likely to be quite that anti-litfic.

Romance OTOH definitely has that "girl cooties" image with some fantasy fans, and I can't imagine romance readers enjoying the likes of "Sharps".

Ahem, I like it...There is some crossover, maybe not huge - but many romance readers read other genres too, although those that read fantasy...maybe not so much (Historical type stuff probably more so)

But A Romance Fan, picking it up expecting Romance is going to be disappointed!

Sorry, that's what I meant - people who only read romance and similar probably aren't going to like KJP.

You're not suggesting she's Stephanie Meyers or E. L. James?

Maybe La Nora (Roberts)? :D

I can;t see fantasy fans being horrified by many other genres tbh.

On the other hand, maybe I'm KJ and so is my wife.

Maybe she writes under the cunning disguise of J.K. Parker.

I've always personally thought that he/she may also write for Siege Engines Monthly, the authors love of designing and building working siege engines was mentioned in the Fencer trilogy.

My other thought was techno-thriller, which is another genre that revels in the minutiae of How Stuff Works but probably has little crossover in audiences.

Maybe Taxation Law handbooks. That would be shocking.

Indeed. Could be poetry too. Or playwriting for that matter. Romance is a possibility, but given KJP's comments in interviews about love, romance, and happy endings, I can't imagine that's the case. Unless KJP is a writing team, which hasn't been discussed but remains entirely possible.
