“Imitate” is perfectly fine word and fits here, though it does have the implication of being unoriginal (in one sense) or mocking (in another).

I think that “model” is great for this meaning, but it’s a bit obscure for some folks.*

*see my superpower

Perhaps ‘emulate’ would have been closest in this context?

Now now, people. I think the best would be "follow". Not as a synonym, but because I meant something along the lines of "follow the example of the others".

 :P

Lady Ty has a terrible point. The story didn't have to be terrible. Could have had super lovely consequences... Dang.

“Emulate” is far better than my suggestion.

Emulate carries connotations relating to mimicking behavior, although the concepts are related. Someone might emulate another writer by mimicking their approach to presenting their story by copying other writers' use of spaces between paragraphs following Nora's story as a model.

The beauty of English is that it contains all of these glorious not-quite-synonyms, usually all derived from different source languages and technically meaning similar things while loaded with vastly differing cultural connotations. It’s a wonder we ever have any misunderstandings, while it is equally amazing that we can make ourselves understood at all.

And Amy Adams never finished teling us why Portuguese sounds so different to all the other Romance languages.

Hard to choose 2, there were 3 at a very even step, for me...

So far, 9 people voted, and the top 3 stories are tied/very-very-close :D Still time to change the path...

Two stories stood out for me this month. One vote each seemed fair.

Voted.  I might not be in a position to go over my own story again for this month but I'll be damned before I don't get these read!
