Brandon Sanderson Writing Lectures at BYU
« on: January 17, 2017, 06:45:24 PM »
I know that they are linked from his blog, but for those that don't necessarily read a lot of blogs, I would like to provide a resource that I felt was really helpful.  Brandon Sanderson was nice enough to post all 12 of his lectures given during his Creative Writing class at BYU.  They are helpful as he goes over (his perspective, but he also tries to be general) the writing process, styles of writing, world building, publishing, character development, magic, plot construction, and agents.

Yes, it's called Writing About Dragons, and pretty famous here. I'm pretty sure it already is on some recommendation big post.

Actually the first link on this one : http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/new-board/a-writer's-stash-share-your-resources/

I didn't realize that he had other ones.  The link I posted is to the most recent year, under the name Camera Panda.  Not sure how different they are from previous years, but I thoroughly enjoyed these.

Huh. I thought this was just a shorter version of the WAD course, since the video points are the same in surface (characters, plot, magic systems, etc). I guess he does a few of them every other year and you do end up with more or less similar videos, with his material evolving a bit as he changes through his career.

I'm definitely going to start watching the older ones tomorrow, just to see. I found the others useful, so I want to see what I can glean from those. So thanks for pointing me at those, any way.

I know this is an old thread, but I finally finished a project I undertook some time ago, and have collected ALL of the Sanderson lectures into one place. This includes the 2010 JordonCon, 2012 BYU, 2013 BYU, 2014 BYU, and the 2016 BYU.

They've helped me immeasurably and are definitely worth checking out of you are a newer writer. (Oh, and I didn't monetize anything, this is purely meant to be a resource for people).

My blog has the separated links to each series:

Or, you can check out the whole set using this playlist:

Thanks for doing that @zmunkz . I've watched your videos before, especially the older lectures that were cut into several different videos. Made it so much easier to get from one topic to the next when they are edited together.
