I can't think of a baddies group :(

I need to sit in front of my shelves and go through each book thinking of characters, hehe

The Manes from Wooding's Tales of the Ketty Jay would make very good baddies.

The Zombies.

That would be my squad.

...

Am I really the first person to say that?

- Daenerys. The dragons would be useful, both to attack or flee. If the dragons die don't come in the package, she would be useless, though, and the Mountain would be the GoT choice.

- Locke Lamora. Can probably enter small spaces and find stuff we may need, like meds, food, weapons, etc and be creative on dire situations. Stehlen from Beyond Redemption would probably be a better thief and would kill hordes of zombies by herself, but she also would kill everyone in their sleep just cuz.

- Sazed, from Mistborn. Storage maps, places we've been, points of interest and feruchemy just in case. If we fail he can also storage all our History for... whoever inherits the Earth later. Or maybe he can find what's happening, immunity or a cure.

- The Golem, from the Golem and the Jinni. Juggernaut girl who can't turn into a zombie and won't use any of our resources. Also a great cook, so she would make our food. Yea, that would be nice.

- Mark Watney, from the Martian. Has experience on the survival subject and would take care of our tech stuff. Probably a good team with Locke around. Also, if Earth is doomed, we would know how to live in Mars.

- Nighteyes, from Farseer Trilogy. Probably good to have an animal to see/hear enemies coming way before you. Pets also improve morale.

- Hermione. At least one reliable magic user. And like Sazed, maybe she discovers immunity/cure, etc. Probably can heal injuries too.

Hm, it would be interesting to see interactions between these characters. Maybe when Fanfic contest returns  ::)

Anyway, to give a different answer...

Polgara & Durnik from the Belgariad/Malloreon

Tavi & Kitai from Codex Alera

Damer Flinn & Corele Horvian from Wheel of Time

And

?

This group has been picked on three criteria

1) Getting along. Can't work together, can't survive a zombie apocalypse. None of these characters are particularly lone wolf or up themselves, so we're just dandy there. The fact that I've picked three couples should keep group morale high and internal friction low. That was deliberate y'all.

2) Powerful as all freaking hell. They're all magic users. The WoT guys are probably the least powerful, in that they're only mid-ranking channelers, although both healing specialists. They could probably blow through a hell of a lot of zombies with no fuss if they wanted though. On the upper end of this scale, Polgara's power level is basically "Plot device".

3) Useful non-magic skills. Polgara is a fantastic cook is the obvious one here, but Durnik's craftsmanship, and the sneakiness of Tavi & Kitai will be pretty useful.

Only problem is I'm not running around post-Apocalypse with three couples and no one to keep me company - hence the ?. I honestly couldn't think of a friendly magic using female who's single yet romance material. Which is kinda weird. Any suggestions for the last one, sing 'em out.

... I might do a Villain/Mundane/God/Whatever one later as well.

Well, if there's been an apocalypse, their other half might have been killed, so they're now single.

You speak wisdom as ever, but I still found it a weird thing to contemplate and worthy of mention. Plus, you know, it would be pretty weird to be all "Hey, I'm gonna wish their partner dead so I can get jiggy with them".

Hah, awesome.

Gaming is both fantasy and sci-fi, so that's where I'm pulling my squad. Most non-gamers won't know who these people are, so I've provided Wikia links for those curious.

I also tried to pull one character from each game, because honestly, the Gears of War squad alone would wipe the floor with pretty much any zombie horde without help.

Team Leader
Commander Shepard (Mass Effect) - Because keeping folks alive in a zombie apocalypse, convincing very different people to work together toward a common goal, and making those tough post-apocalyptic decisions should be easy for a person who saved the galaxy from the Reapers (one way or another).

Frontline
Note: Going with folks for whom ammo isn't a limiting factor, since resupply is questionable.

Master Chief (Halo) - Because there is literally no space marine more space marine, his shields seem to recharge pretty much indefinitely (great for tanking the zombie horde), and, assuming there's no ammo available, his Energy Sword would pretty much waste everything.

Samus Aran (Super Metroid) - So far as I know her standard cannon has unlimited ammo, plus she's super maneuverable and can fit into tight spaces to find supplies (morph ball!)

Link (Legend of Zelda) - Master Swords don't run out of ammo either, plus he can play his Ocarina to keep people's spirits up during those long, lonely nights!

Alistair (Dragon Age) - This guy's already fought and destroyed legions of Darkspawn. Zombies? Nothing by comparison. Also, someone has to provide sardonic wit for the survivors.

Wild Card
Duke Nukem (Duke Nukem 3D) - He'd totally destroy the zombies when he was paying attention, but he'd be rather unreliable, because he'd probably end up wandering off to the last strip club on Earth or be too busy admiring his muscles to notice the zombies were attacking. Fear the Mighty Boot!

Berserkers
Kratos (God of War) - Because he's just so ANGRY all the time! Also pretty much an army by himself. Only downside? He might kill you by accident because he's SO ANGRY. Also really doesn't take orders well.

Marcus Fenix (Gears of War) - Also super angry all the time, but far better at directing that rage. Marcus is seriously someone you could just unleash on a zombie horde while you sit back and drink (whatever's left in the apocalypse). He's got a chainsaw bayonet for Peat's sake (see what I did there?)

Attack Dog
Dog (Half-Life 2) - He's already survived one apocalypse, and some robot muscle would come in handy. Plus who doesn't love Dog. (Note: Would love an Alyx Vance to go with him, but she's limited by ammo and I'm limiting myself to one character from each game)

Magic User
Yuna (Final Fantasy 10) - Another brave person to keep the group's spirits up, but I'd also imagine there's going to be a lot of wounds and infected bites, and a white mage is good to have around if you don't want your whole squad turning in zombies.

Secret Weapon
KOS-MOS (Xenosaga) - For when you absolutely need the entire zombie horde in an entire city wiped off the map in one attack, right now.

You think you're funny.

... Well, okay, you are kinda are  :P

Neither of them are powerful enough for this charming little anti-death squad though. Nor exactly datable really.

And I only brought up there being a single female - not the idea of a recently bereaved one!

Aaaaanyway.

I was going to do an Urban Fantasy one, then basically realised I'd just name the entire cast of the Dresden Files. They're just zombie apocalypse type people.
