Wait Buy Why - the new series
« on: September 05, 2019, 04:29:29 PM »
Wait But Why is a super site full of interesting articles (and funny drawings) about society and science and people.
It's written by a guy called Tim Urban, and he's been quiet in the last few months... but he's back!

With a new series that tries to make sense of the world, this is the summary page where you can see each chapter as it gets published.

I've just finished reading the latest one, and suddenly the state of the world makes a little more sense.
Give it a try :)

This new series looks interesting. Most theories of group selection (1-6) postulate many groups
fixed in space, with exchange by dispersers between groups. Within groups individual selection operates; an "altruistic" trait can thus only become fixed by genetic drift. This requires the groups to be small, and dispersal between groups, must be slight to prevent the reintroduction of "selfish" individuals. The "altruistic" groups could then serve as a stock for the recolonization of selfish groups that go extinct. I think he has very good information to learn
