The nicest Valentines gift I ever was given was 5 perfect white roses from a very good florist. the reason it was 5 was that was all she could afford and I had a good idea of what she had gone without to get those.

The best I have given a short story I wrote. I was woken by the recipient in tears (she had been on night shift) and I thought someone had died.

We don't really do valentine's day.  Our thinking if you wait until one day a year to show your loved one how much you love them then you're doing it wrong.  That said, my mother did volunteer to watch the kids tonight and I'm not stupid enough to turn that down.
