I need a new laptop, and I basically use it for online browsing and Office work (excel). I need numeric keypad, so 15.6"

2 options:
* Lenovo V155-15API AMD Ryzen 5-3500U 8GB 256GB SSD 15.6
* HP 250 G7 15.6" Full HD Intel Core i5

Which would you choose? They're both under £400 this week, there's about £50 difference between the 2... I can't decide (as usual...)

The most important aspect for web browsing laptop is SSD disk and RAM. Go for higher SSD first RAm second for the same price laptops.

My 6 year old laptop turned into a racing car after switching to SSD :)

I've never used Lenovo, so would opt for the HP 250. That being said, the Lenovo does look like the better of the two, so if you're a prior Lenovo user, stick with what you know.

Mine is 7 years old (Toshiba Stellite) and is just so incredibly slow, takes ages to do anything.

Thanks isos, those 2 are both SSD and with 8GB RAM.
I think the main differences are the Lenovo has got a DVD writer slot (I sometimes use it to save CDs into my laptop/phone), the processor, one is Ryzen 5 and the other Intel 5, and I've read that the HP screen isn't as good despite the same resolution.

Thanks Alex, I've got a Lenovo tablet and it's quite good - I might then go with it...

My laptop is Toshiba Satellite, too. It has 16 gb RAM with Intel 7 processor. It was very slow but turned into a monster in terms of web browsing and general usage after switching to SSD. You might consider changing your hard-drive to save lots of money.

If it works, you buy me a beer. If not, I'll buy you one and everybody wins :)

Anything not made by Apple is good.  :P

Check out Acer Aspire series. 5 and E15 models are good.

If it's for browsing and Excel, then you don't need high specs. A good RAM/processor should do. You can always buy portable expandable memory, which I prefer to built in memory.

Oh, mine's got just 4 RAM and is an i3, so it's better to upgrade, hehe

And Bender, nothing made by Apple is good :P
 ;D

And thanks, I'm just checking ebuyer, it's where I bought mine last time and it's got good service and prices. It doesn't have those Acers

Edit: yay I bought the Lenovo one!
Only £350 (£100 off on that site) and better than similar priced ones on other shops/sites

Thanks for helping :)

I only buy Dell, so I can't help you here. ;)

My brother did the old laptop + new SSD trick too and it was incredible.

It's -12 °C over here, but we're having the second-driest month in almost a century, so instead of snow the streets are just covered in a constant layer of rime. The eerie stillness is also simply not letting up. I have honestly never experienced anything like this.

In unrelated news, I just got back from the last session of a wood carving class. I made and painted a Santa Claus figure and a skull. So that's fun.

Your talk of carving wooden skull reminded me of this, hahah.

I'm getting increasingly disillusioned with alcohol. Last night marked the end of my planned break from the stuff, and I'm regretting it. I just can't sleep properly after drinking, even if it's in modest amounts.

I need to buy a pair of new road running shoes. Whic brand and model do you prefer? Anything I should consider?

Eeeek, I can't remember what brand I've had!
I sort of turn my right food inwards (overpronating, I think) so I need special shoes. I think the current ones are Asics.

My recommendation is to use a specialist shop: it was there that I did the running test and realised that thing about my foot (and why it hurted with normal shoes) and they were able to recommend a few that I tried there. Put them on and ran for a bit, on the treadmill at the shop.
It might be a bit more expensive than buying online, but it's worth it.
