Wow congratulations, Alex! I'm glad you finally graduated and could now venture into the wide, free world. I've still got at least 3 more years to go, bleh.  :D
Sometimes I forget how young some of you really are ;D

I'm only 22. But I've been a grouchy old man on the inside for some time now.

Just glad I got out of university before the people born in 2000 turned up. I don't think I could've taken that.

Yesterday I watched a 45-min documentary about Iceland. It's viewed from the perspective of what small independent european nations can do, as it is done by a team of pro Scottish independence activists, but it's extremely well filmed/edited.

Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fyI1V9D5Jw (there's a previous one about the Faroe Islands, and they are trying to fund a few more).

Not sharing it for the political message (hence why I'm posting it here and not in the Politics thread), but because it was genuinely inspiring to learn a bit more of Iceland's recent history, particularly how it faced the 2008 financial crisis, and how activists are crowdfunding a new constitution for the country. If you end up watching it @Eli_Freysson, do tell if you think it's a bit far-fetched or not :P But as someone who knows very little about Iceland I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I do get a bit uncomfortable at this kind of stroking, but I can't really point to anything as being factually incorrect... except when the host translates Reykjavík as "Literally, the Big Smoke".

Yes, the country itself has been trying to kill us since day one, and no, we still don't worry about volcanoes. They're just a fact of life. And yes, fuck Gordon Brown right into multiple stab wounds. And yes, we just went and declared independence from Denmark when they were occupied by the Nazis.

(Tee hee)

But I'm not really the guy to ask about current Icelandic issues. I lost faith in those after the original push for a better constitution was strangled by the bank collapse idiots.

There's been this huge '12 kids stuck in a cave rescue mission' thing going on in my country (Thailand), and it had gained attention from all over the world. Even Elon Musk, the head of Tesla and SpaceX, visited to give some help. There have even been talks of Hollywood productions interested in adapting the event for screenplay.

I'm sure we'll get to watch a film based on this someday soon.  ;)

We had live updates going all the time online here, Inks, so much relief when we knew they were all finally safe. Waking up in the morning it was the first thing we checked. But very sorry the Thai SEAL died, they were all so brave.

Insomnia for no good reason. It's past 2 am and tomorrow's going to be a pain.

^ At least it's Friday...

It hasn't rained for over a month here, great sunny weather. This afternoon it's the summer BBQ of my area at work - weather forecast? Rain and thunderstorms ::) >:(

Edit: it didn't rain and it was a great afternoon!!!

Hmm.

One Sunday morning I heard a loud noise out in the stairwell. I didn't give it any further thought until went to go for a swim. It turned out my neighbour's door had been broken open, was basically in two pieces and had sort of been propped up in the doorway. There were sounds of movement within. Feeling rather unnerved I fetched another neighbour and we jointly rang the doorbell. It turned out the guy had locked himself out of the apartment, and had just opted for the direct solution.

"I was going to change that door soon, anyway."

This was over a year ago, and he just got a new door. In the meantime the old one was held together with a bolted-on wooden plate.
