Kings of Convenience - I'd rather dance with you

Saw those guys yesterday in a small concert trying out songs for their new album. First time Julia and me have been on a concert together in the last two years! :)

These are my current writing-themes, which share a certain intensity and a balance between the resolute and the melancholy. My enjoyment / use of them has nothing at all to do with their source material - in fact, I don't think about their sources at all.

I literally listen to them whenever I am thinking, writing, or otherwise have my mind bent on my WIP - which is close to 24/7.

Since this thread doesn't have enough metal in it, I recently picked up Allegaeon's new album. Pretty damn epic, if you enjoy thrash metal. Best description I can offer is Amon Arath meets Opeth ... good stuff.

Their full album is on Youtube if want a preview (but if you like it, buy it!)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r26exX3LVgY

And one of my favorite songs actually has a significant acoustic portion as well, which is really fun. Plus the video is actually fun (I like when one of the guys is feeding another a peanut and butter jelly sandwich while he plays guitar :p)

My latest inspirational discovery: Zack Hemsey. This song isn't actually on the Equalizer soundtrack, although it would fit there.  It captures just the right amount of slow realization, slow awakening, and slow rejection I want my MC to experience as he comes into his own.

I thought I'd post something probably no-one here has heard of. No, I'm not being a hipster. DrĂ½sill was a short-lived Icelandic metal band in the eighties.

I've also been listening to a lot of Sabaton lately. Here's my current favourite song, played with scenes from a Russian movie about the battle of Stalingrad.

I don't know how to post videos but let's see if I get it right. Anyway, I love an almost dead form of music called Delta Blues that was found in the Mississippi River Delta and played by blacks back at the turn of the 20th century. Blues then morphed to become similar to what we have now when bluesmen moved to Chicago following job leads in the 1940s and 50s. Here are three tracks from the man who sold his soul to the Devil to play guitar, Robert Johnson. To me, music doesn't get any better.

There are anime openings I generally skip after the first few times, and then there are anime openings that I will watch literally every time I watch an episode, even if I'm binging them. These are five (make that six) of those. They just do such a good job of pairing music and imagery to encapsulate the tone and attitude of the show I'm about to watch.

Short but sweet.

The Sound of Silence is just pure awesomeness.

And how about the Call of Cthulhu by Metallica on their symphonic album in 1999? Perfect, and everything from 7:00 onwards is even more awesome, specially the solo at 7:50

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNKlXYVcucY

And then I found this version of Nothing Else Matters during a marriage!  :o

Apparently it's a TV program in Finland where the couple chooses a finnish artist to sing on their marriage and they choose Tarja Turunen to sing a cover of Nothing Else Matters. Wow. But apparently their families don't like rock  ::)

More for the sake of making people discovering the instrument than anything, lend your ear to the Armenian duduk, a breathy flute that has amazing mournful notes.
The first track could be sad, healing, or good with magic... The second to me brings more of an arabian night feel, but I really love the instrument :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5tcbD5in7k

And a literary aside... This guy tried something really cool. We don't know exactly how to pronounce ancient sumerian, but with what we have of it, and using an instrument of the day, this dude things the beginning of the most ancient piece of literature known to man, The Epic of Gilgamesh.
It always sends shivers down my spine when I hear him begin. I mean, it's as close as we get to hear the work of one of ours, writing FOUR THOUSAND YEARS AGO.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUcTsFe1PVs

The dude specialises in reconstructing ancient historically correct instruments of all civilisations. Interesting for the curious.

Just check out the mad playing of this old greek instrument, early electric guitar feel, 3000 years early.

Cool music if you like synth/electronic, and enjoy action movie music.

This track is one of my favourite in John Wick :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_3sdIEhkNA

The scene in itself was epic. He was chasing his russian target in the underground sauna of this big club, and follows him up to the dancefloor. Great editing went into that. (many, not too graphic headshots, best way is to watch from 2min to 4min)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-HSoOFdJ3s

Much more synth now, this is from the movie Drive :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MV_3Dpw-BRY

This one has great music but also won a 2015 award for best dance video

#Invalid YouTube Link#

A superbly absurd song. Apparently it's featured in the second season of Mr.Robot, but I haven't watched it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBhDaVg1E6Y

Finally, on the theme of corpses, ghosts... Awesome video to watch with the audio :

I want to take the title thread quite literally here.

There's an upcoming multiplayer video game based on the Friday the 13th series, where one players controls Jason Voorhees, and the other players are campers trying to survive the night. The band Crazy Lixx wrote an original song for the game, and it feels just perfectly 80's. Here's a video, with some footage of Mr. Voorhees going about his business.

And for @Nighteyes as it's his favourite

Jokes aside, I would put Easy as one of my all time favourite songs. It is a great song and I have so many happy memories attached to it. Just bizarre that the song has chosen to stalk me across the globe.

You know what I miss about 80's horror movies? Theme songs with actual lyrics.

Cheesy? Maybe. But there's a certain charm to it.

We used to sing this (violently) at Lancastrians when I was playing at Wars of the Roses.
The origins are ancient and it has been linked to the peasants revolt ans possibly to sacrifice of the year king.

It's kind of amazing what kind of quality one can see in fan works. I'd say Deviantart is the premium example, but there's also stuff like this:

There's a new trailer out for the upcoming Friday the 13th game, with a new song specifically written to sound very 80's. It's basically a gory music video.

Oh my god, that is the most horrible thing ever. The player is the killer? Holy shit - absolutely without any redeeming qualities, and I actually fought a man with an axe, so if it horrifies me, I can't imagine how a normal person would take that.

Just came across this recently ... a number of excellent jazzy mixes inspired by Cowboy Bebop. Really good stuff. Also, you get to watch Spike brush his teeth for an hour!

Just saw the film, which is visually stunning and quite a bit of fun. Jude Law was superb, as was everyone else.
This song is stirring in an interesting way.
