Just realized I'm also a Chrestomanci, whatever that is.
It's something I've never heard of either.

Diana Wynn Jones! Classic fantasy. Not so much YA as contains nothing unsuitable for a younger audience?

Once I get to Gentleman Bastard I plan to retreat into inscrutable silence and maintain my rank forever.

why are today’s  fantasy Australian authors not as good as there used to be

Look at the 80’s compared to the 2010’s way more popular Australian authors in the 80’s  hehe.

I volunteer to let cupiscent use my account as a sockpuppet so she can still reply to such things without ceasing to be a Gentleman Bastard.  ;)

Peat! My hero! ;D

AKSHULLY I think this is because most Aussie authors are going direct off-shore these days. With the internet, it's easy-peasy to submit work to foreign agents / publishers and the markets are bigger. Jay Kristoff, Sam Hawke, Amie Kaufmann, Rjurik Davidson, and I know a whole bundle of authors who have signed with overseas agents and even made overseas sales of books that aren't out yet. (Keep an eye out for EJ Beaton and Shelley Parker-Chan, both of their books look AMAZING.)

Considering @ScarletBea is now pushing towards 12,000 posts, we probably should come up with something to supersede Big Wee Hag.
