Dying Light - Gaming that leads to new Reading titles
« on: April 08, 2015, 11:59:53 AM »
Dying Light is the first horror game I have ever purchased (after some persuasion from my Boss whom I game with often) and I have to say that I have fallen in love with the game and this has also got me to expand my reading genres from Fantasy and Sci-Fi into the zombie horror (currently reading a zombie book on my iPhone and really enjoying it)
Has anyone else expanded their reading lists after playing a computer game (or maybe a board/card game) and if so what game?
Huge fan of Fantasy and other Fiction Genres, mostly down to my mother who got me involved in Fantasy from an early age
I also have a Bearded Dragon called Draco, 3 Leopard Geckos called Mojo, Ziva & Fiddler and last but not least is my very cheeky Quaker Parrot Loki

I started getting interested in high fantasy with playing Baldur's Gate. I've read Lord of the Rings before that, but that was just a one time thing. All the other stuff I knew was children books like Neverending Story and Jim Button.

Dying Light is awesome! Just finished it last night with my bro-in-law after about 60 hours.

When it comes to horror - movies and tv shows I love them, give me a zombie movie anyday but horror games have always been a big NO for me, I think it was always the fact that you were in control made it more personal and so I always steered clear.
After my boss got Dying Light we tested out the ShareScreen option on the PS4 so that I could watch him play(tried the ShareConteoller option but his wifi connection was too bad and it kept crashing). After watching him play for a while it did look good and I ended up on Twitch watching some I'm an annoying spammer. Ignore me and don't click this link! A Mod will ban me as soon as they can!ing of the game. After a couple of days I decided to overcome the fear that horror games brought out in me and bought the game.
I've now been playing for a couple of weeks and have to say that it quickly became not only a great game in my eyes, but one of my all time favourites. I think it really boils down to the great gameplay. The parkour aspect of the game has been a huge part of this, the parkour in Assisns Creed is what general brought me back to playing creed whenever a knew one came out but DL has trumpt AC in this, it's clunky at first as you struggle to aim for the right spot when jumping and so don't automatically grab hold of he edge you were aiming for which builds the excitement and adrenaline as the zombies close in around you when you fall. Then as the game goes on not only can you upgrade your character to get better at traversing the town but you generally get better at judging distances and knowing which routes to take and soon your free running across the rooftops like a pro (yet still with that niggling in your mind that at any moment you can misjudge a jump and land in a mass of flesh eaters.
Pair this with the awesome weapons, upgrades, buildable items/weapons and the fact that you can co-op with friends(and share items) with , as so far I've experienced, no connection or lag issues and you have one great game.
The only downside to the game is the night missions but that's just my preference as I'm a big scaredy pants that is afraid of the dark (real or in a game) although please give me credit that at 27 I no longer have to sleep with the landing light on

Like I have said in another post, I apologise for any rambling in this (or future posts), I've been told that I do this when writing things like messages and emails etc... But I guess it just means I passionate about these subjects.

Edit: I've noticed that it's added in a line about Spamming and being Banned by a Mod, hope this isn't something I've done

Edit2: just noticed there is a thread for this in the forum so glad it's not something I've done wrong, would hate to get banned lol
