Submissions Now Open!

Greetings Fantasy Fans!

Wow! Can you believe it? Already, submissions for the Fantasy Writing Contest are Open! Yes, that is right, as of midnight last night, submissions have opened up and now, thousands of you, all around the world will be able to submit their fantasy short stories to be judged for possible entry into the Fantasy-Faction Anthology and be featured alongside some of the biggest names in Fantasy.

If you'd be so kind to bear with me for a few more moments, I'd love to bring to your attention, once more, the rules of the contest - we've changed a few of them slightly, so pay attention! :)

-We are looking for Fantasy Short Stories

-They can be of any sub-genre (Epic, Dark, Urban, Steampunk, Traditional, etc).
(Sci-Fi/Horror are only allowed if they include 'Fantasy elements.)

-We are allowing you up to 8000 Words to tell your tale
(It can be less, but it CANNOT be more).

-Authors must be unpublished within the fantasy genre
(This means you have printed less than 2500 copies of a single book within the fantasy genre)

-Authors keep story rights (we require just one year of exclusivity)

---

So far, we've had some pretty positive feedback regarding our totally optional and yet unmissable 'Entry Plus' option. Entry Plus allows you to receive critique from one of the judges in regards to what worked in your story, what didn't, what could be worked upon and how to improve your chances in future contests. It is completely optional and designed to offer those who want it honest feedback on their entry. You can read more about it here: Entry Plus Information.

Well, I wanted to keep this E-mail short and sweet - so, that's it from me. I wish you the very best of luck and I do hope you feel the inclination to enter.

Submitted my entry earlier today, and opted for the entry-plus as well as I'd like to get some detailed feedback and critique on my work.

Now for the long wait every author has to endure constantly checking inbox for that email...  :)
To have an idea is not enough - no matter how good the idea is.

That's great - I do qualify under the unpublished rule.  I'll get working.

Question for Overlord,

Is it possible to submit more than one entry, as i have a few shorts that might bear to see the light of day..?

plus, is there a minimum word count?

Unfortunately, you can only submit one story per person, but there is no minimum word count. :)  Good luck!

Thanks for the info, maybe I'll find another home for the next one as my submission is already in.

I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that submitting more than one story is okay. Am not sure where and when, though...

What are the rules concerning content?  Swearing, adult subjects, explicit sex, etc?

I think Overlord changed his mind.  Probably because they've gotten so many submissions so far. :)

That's what I thought. And it's a sensible thing to do. ;)

We had around 100 entries in the first week and I thought it could get dangerous if we started accepted three stories by each person as at the current rate we stand to hit over 1000 entries and if we allowed each person three... we'd really struggle to read them all ;)

What do you think about crude languages, sex, and violence? How much is too much?
If you have not, smile.

The first line of my most recent short story is:
"Don't you fucking move!"

--

Personally, I think swearing has its place if it contributes to plot or characterisation. The only problem I have with language is when it is used for the sake of it. Same goes for sex and violence really. If you smash something to a bloody pulp, there needs to be a reason for it. If you have sex in there - it needs to be needed.

Basically, if you took the sex, violence and language out - would the story be better or worse? If better, then take it out... if worse... leave it in :)

Hope that helps.

Quick question on submission formatting: On the page where you upload your entry, it says to stick to certain filetypes and to put your title and name at the top. Which I did.

Then I went back and checked the 'Rules' page, where it says to put the title, name and emal in a header, plus word-count in the footer. Which I didn't do. Aargh! Will this consign me to instant binning? Should I re-submit, or is it too late to recover?

You should be fine. :) I'll poke Overlord and make sure he gives you an official answer. :)
