Is there a minimum word count?
« on: April 26, 2012, 02:23:30 AM »
My short stories tend to be...short  ;)

Also, I'm not getting the sense that there is a general theme -- which makes things incredibly difficult as I try and decide which of my short stories to enter.  Do I try and enter something that would appeal to my fellow writers...maybe the trendy teen 'supernatural'...or how about the old school crowd?

They say a picture is worth a thousand words...what a bunch of idiots!
Give me a thousand words and I'll paint you a hundred pictures!

Well this isn't the official answer but it's a fantasy anthology. I would think that includes medieval/urban fantasy. "Teen supernatural" probably wouldn't fit the theme.
I, Minion: "Fun, dark, a worthy read!"

Also not an official reply, but I'd say that what the editors are probably looking for is something that expresses your work at its best, not any particular fad.

Anything fantasy may be submitted. :)  For the purposes of the contest we are defining fantasy as, “All stories that contradict known or theoretical law of nature and does not try to explain it with detailed science”.

As for a minimum word count? I don't think there is one, but I'll double check for you. :)

Many thanks for the replies.

"...fantasy authors who are currently crafting new worlds..."

For some reason, that particular phrase has really stuck in my head.  A lot of times I will 'doodle' just for personal gratification and every once in a long while that 'doodling' comes out pretty good.  It won't really be a part of anything, but it will be something that I enjoy reading when I need a break.  That being said, I'm not getting the impression that this is what the contest is all about.  The contest is about "crafting new worlds".  Something that can be built on???  Not necessarily a prologue, but a teaser.

Am I thinking along the same lines as everyone else?
