Digital Entry
« on: June 13, 2012, 11:28:19 PM »
Hi,

I know that I am to enter digitally to the contest, but that got me thinking. Do you read the entries on screen or print them off? If you read them on screen do you use Word? I ask because I'm worried that the red squiggly lines under made up names and the green lines under sentences that word thinks are wrong would be very distracting in longer pieces. Do you turn spell check and things off when you read on the screen?

I'm really excited for the release of the anthology. Is it only available from this site or will it be sold on Amazon, too?

Thanks
Matt

Hey, Matt!
This isn't an official answer but I'm pretty sure they read the digital versal (I.E in Word)... I'm just guessing, though, because I saw a reply to another thread about the judges sending you feedback on your story if you signed up to it.
They give it you via the comments option on Word.

But I wouldn't worry about those squiggly lines for made up names and such, I expect that they will either turn off spell check or add them all to their dictionaries (unlikely).

I'm sure I read somewhere (possibly on Twitter) that they are uploading all stories to their kindles for reading.

Hi,

Thanks for the response. If they load it into their kindles that should be good. However, does that mean we should aim to format our stories so we use indents for paragraphs? Reading on a computer is easier with 1.5 or 2x spacing, but a kindle is easier with indentations.

I'm probably thinking too much into this, aren't I?

Thanks
Matt

I'm not sure about anything - I'd have thought that the writing is what matters. It's possible they will read some on a screen. But as we haven't been told otherwise specifically, I'm sure they will do any formatting they need to themselves. I wouldn't worry.  :)

In short: Yes - you are probably over-thinking it.  :D

I don't know about the judges, but I have the squiggly lines switched off all the time.  They're not only distracting, they're mostly worse than useless.

Yeah - they will be on kindles so colour isn't going to work ;)
