So, I am sending out a newsletter this week, but for Twitter followers and Forum users I will be revealing this a little early.
The authors included within the anthology are amongst my favourite writers within the genre. Some I'm lucky enough to be able to call friends, others have decided that they want to help the site and support the new authors who we are holding the competition for. Whatever their reason, I believe the following authors featuring within our anthology are doing a huge service to myself and everyone who visits this site and who has been inspired to enter the fantasy writing contest. Without these people, there would be no anthology, no writing contest and, potentially, no Fantasy-Faction.
I hope you'll be as excited as I am when you read some of the names we are ready to release to you and perhaps even join me in offering them a thank you or two ;)
Short Stories
Mark Lawrence
Myke Cole
Richard Ford
Adrian Tchaikovsky
Jon Sprunk
Michael J. Sullivan
Articles
Mark Newton
Tom Pollock
Douglas Hulick
Richard Morgan
James Barclay
Anne Lyle
Just as exciting as the lists above is the fact that we still have around 4/5 authors left to announce (subject to their other commitments). We will be releasing their names, all going well, at a rate of one a month until release.
next month: COVER LAUNCH!
Thanks for reading! :)

WOW! That's an impressive line up! This is shaping up to be a hell of a collection, well done guys.
And cover launch next month! Will admit I like the one that's been being used up to now.

In that case... this one will blow you away!!!!

next month: COVER LAUNCH!
Any word on when this will be revealed to the world?
-
So, who were the contest winners?
Looking forward to this, most interested in the articles section - I always enjoy reading other people's opinions on what fantasy is/means to them.
-
YOU WHAT? A NEW TALE OF EGG AND DUNK FROM GEORGE RR MARTIN?
Sorry, couldn't resist it ...

Cover art is done, we are just waiting on the layout to be finished. :)

We have yet to finish reading the entries, so we have no idea who's won yet. ;) We got about 1700 so it's going to take us till the end of the month to get through them all.

No, I think he knows why, Autumn. Excellent lineup, it's going to be an extremely good anthology.

Stunning line up ... even if there were no more announcements, it would still be one of THE publishing events in fantasy of 2013.

More announcements? So there are yet more authors to be added? Ooooo Oooo WHO WHO!!
I may have a sex wee if something involving gentlemen that are bastards appears on the list.

Marc, Paul, Jennie - you should all be seriously proud of compiling a list of authors like the one above. (And that's after the fact that you're reading 1700 short stories, and hand-picking 6 of the best. Awesome.) I have no idea if there's a category, but I'll be the first to cry HUGO!

Quite an impressive load you shouldered there. Doing all this with a team of three (and in your free time!) - that's what I call devotion (and a talent for organizing and time-management). Way to go!

Ditto, I think it's incredible, the amount of dedication from Marc, Paul and Jennie. Fantastic line up as well. Big thank you to all the authors for their time and their support and to you guys for giving us this anthology, I can't wait. :)

HOLY OVERLORD!!! (that's right, I used Marc in place of a deity 8))
I only just saw this line up and I have to say...Wow.
I hope you guys realise that when this takes off, you'll have authors begging you to put them in the next one, right? :)

Any update on the cover launch?

D'you know, I was wondering the same thing today!

I think I saw somewhere (Twitter?) that you don't expect to announce winners until late Sept/early Oct or so, and that you planned to cut to 150, then 50, then 6. I was wondering if you will e-mail rejection notices or just e-mail folks who are short-listed to let them know they've advanced to the next round, or if you might post somewhere who's made it through each round as you make your cuts? Just curious if I should be watching somewhere for updates. Thanks, and kudos for reading 1700 entries!

I think it would be good if we could get regular updates on the selection process. Not getting into specifics, but at least how many stories have been read each week, and how many made it into the 'list'.
Also, it would be nice to know what is the process you plan to follow for the selection.

Eh, I see it as they're really busy and will get to it eventually. I truthfully have forgotten about it over the past month, most likely because I know it'll end in a rejection letter. ;D
But yeah, they're overworked as it is. A regular update would be awesome, but I believe Nestat posted somewhere that with all the entries, its like them reading the whole Malazan and WoT series, in a few months to critique later and narrow down. Not a light offer. But still... :)

I just posted about this in another thread. :)

The short story is we're getting near the end of reading the short stories. :) I'm going to poke Marc and have him give us an official number of stories remaining, but we're close! We got over 1700 entries, so it's taking a wee bit longer than expected.

Thanks for the update!
Good to hear that you're close to finishing this phase of the process. I can't imagine reading that many stories in such a short time, I'm amazed that you've already read so many. Hopefully most of them are good :)

Thanks so much. I'll watch that thread for more info. I wasn't looking for a specific timeline -- you're right, a lot of markets take many months -- I was just wondering if results would be e-mailed or if something would be posted as the rounds progressed.
