I suppose Odysseus would be the archetypical example.

Except for that pesky part where he kills all the suitors with arrows and spears.
Though I guess since he was in disguise it still counts.  8)

Even when doing the transition from action hero (The Illiad) to guile hero (The Odyssey), the Greeks couldn't resist having the hero slaughter his way through some good scores of men. It was a different time.

I always wanted to watch the Tolkien Edit of the Hobbit but I don't know how to even begin to make that happen.
