Recommend a fantasy based graphic comic for a newbie?
« on: November 11, 2018, 07:22:35 AM »
So i’m Looking to expand my horizons but have only ever fabled in the world of comics/graphic novels (usd to love the Judge Dred books when I was a young teen).

So i’m Wondering if anyone can recommend something grown up based in GrimDark/fantasy that I could pick up from the local forbidden planet comic shop or even download for my kindle/iPad.

Thanks in advance everyone

Ryan

My son loves “Epic”, and I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read.

Grimdark;

Try Monstress

If you want more sci-fish : I found Gantz incredibly violent but addicting

It's not grimdark, but growing up I loved Elfquest and comicwise the Spiderman-Deadpool crossovers are hilarious

Recently I have very much enjoyed Rat Queens and Saga, but neither of those are very grimdark fantasy. (The former is fantasy comedy, the latter gets quite grimdark in places, but is very sci-fi.)

I seem to recall there were/are Game of Thrones-related comic books--anyone tried them?

Many of you are mentioning Monstress, so I thought some might want to have a look at the latest Humble Bundle on comic books: https://www.humblebundle.com/books/start-here-comics?hmb_source=navbar&hmb_medium=product_tile&hmb_campaign=tile_index_7

It has an amazing selection of good comics and graphic novels, most of which are fantasy / sci-fi. Only downside is that they come in digital format, but that might be an actual upside for some of you  ;)
