I thoroughly enjoyed the book, and was excited to see it brought to the screen. There are significant differences, but on the evidence of the first episode, they’ve done a damn good job, and I’m definitely strapped in for the entire ride.Have you seen episode 2?
They're way off book already, but damn it's good! Episode 2 was even better, so epic and all in an hour.I thoroughly enjoyed the book, and was excited to see it brought to the screen. Super weird!
I actually thought that the whole house/cabala plot would last the entire series, but it was done and dusted (hehe) in one episode?
(I haven't read the book)
Jurnee Smollett as Leti is totally owning the show.... as shown once again in episode 4!
Yes, it's really cool how they're doing that, and once again Jurnee's Letitia stole the show from under everyone else's noses. And the plank scene was great, so tense.Jurnee Smollett as Leti is totally owning the show.... as shown once again in episode 4!
I love how they turn the hero trope upside down, and it's the heroine who actually does everything (go first in the plank, rescues the documents, etc).
Each episode seems to be filmed/written in a different sub-genre, yesterday's was adventure/Indiana Jones-type :D
^ this.I just assumed that she was in the US. Partly because the show is set in late 50's/early 60's and calling South Korea would not be the easiest of things to do back then. Episode needed Letty, all the episodes need Letty.
I just want the now, don't care about Ji-An unless she'll be travelling to the US anytime soon... You say she travelled there? Can't remember that, I thought Tic was calling South Korea.
I love Letti, but this episode for me was the best :DBecause its genre, it probably won't win all the awards it deserves, but it should get its fair share, because it's brilliant across the board.
Letti's too young - I totally saw myself in Hippolyta, and despite not having had all the shrinking experiences she had, I understand that feeling absolutely - that's why I moved abroad!
If this series doesn't win all awards and then some, there is no justice in this world!!!
Well, after Watchmen won several a few weeks ago, I'm hopeful :)I think Orphan Black got a few awards, too. Couldn’t have awarded Tatiana Maslany enough for me, though.
I didn't like this episode as much - the ghosts/visions were really creepy and I had to fast-forward/close eyes in those scenes. I hope Dee doesn't die :(Oh yeah, those curse girls freaked me out. I can see plenty of people binge watching the show when this season is done.
But Tic creating a monster of his own? Cool 8)
As a side note, I read Uncle Tom's Cabin when I was about 12-13 and I think I missed all the patronising elements that now everyone mentions. I just thought it was a very sad book and how awful slavery was...
Oh my, Leti walking through the fire....The whole episode was amazing and again highlighted what the real monsters are.
You're both so right!
Almost every week I'm surprised and horrified at what a human being can do to another human being :'(
And it continues to this day...
Oh that ending! :oIt stuck the landing, I thought, and there are places to go forward if they want to.
Leti!! :D
And Christina was the worst kind of evil, poor Ruby :'(
And hurrah bionic arm :D

All in all a very enjoyable show (I originally said fun, but that’s not really right with the subject matter) :oYes, it feels strange at times to like it so much, when those things are still happening all around us.
