So, um, looks like we'll be having eight season at least. If this website is credible. Thoughts?

WinterIsComing is very creditable much like Wesreros.org, both sites to have unrivalled access to insider information.

Plus the news about "up to 8 seasons" and the "possibility of a prequel" is all over other news sites as well (THR, Variety, NY Times).

Personally I'm in two minds about this. Firstly more GoT (YAY!!) but secondly I do worry about the show continuing just for the hell of it or because HBO want to milk it for all its worth. If the narrative warrants it (as in the remaining two novels do need that extra season) then yes, but dont have an extra season if all we are going to have is pointless excursions to give characters something to do (like Bronn/jamie/Dorne).

My worry is 8 seasons will become 9 and then "oh lets go for the 10". Too many other great series did this and ended up becoming a shadow of themselves (Supernatural) and before long we have the prospect of the episode where Ser Fonzie jumps the shark filled Blackwater.

Ian McShane has reportedly been cast for S6 in a role that has "relatively small amount of screen time"but is important later in the season.

http://winteriscoming.net/2015/08/01/ian-mcshane-to-join-cast-of-game-of-thrones-season-6/

Most speculation centres around him being cast as either Lord Randyll Tarly - Lord of Horn Hill and father of Sam - or Victarion Greyjoy - brother of Balon and uncle of Theon.

Whichever character I'm looking forwards to seeing whichever character he is playing, at least with his experience in Deadwood we know he'll be comfortable with all the Fs and Cs.

I can see McShane doing any of those and doing them well. There was talk that Ron Perlman (Martin's original idea for The Hound from his days writing for Beauty and the Beast) was interested in a role and plenty of people wanted him as Halfhand, but he'd make a good Randyll Tarly I think.

Veteran actor Max von Sydow has been cast in the re-casted role of the Three-Eyed-Raven (you know, the guy with the tree growing through him that Bran met up with at the end of S4).

 http://winteriscoming.net/2015/08/03/max-von-sydow-joins-game-of-thrones-for-season-6/

One question though is will we get the full reveal at to who the character is/used to be? In the books it is revealed/hinted that he is Lord Bryden Rivers known as The Boodraven and a legitimized bastard of King Aegon IV Targaryan. In histime he was Hand to the king and after taking the Black rose to be Lord Commander.

He is the Bryden that Maester Aemon tells Sam accompanied him when he first travelled to Castle Black.

Looks like there's been some major rumours/massive spoilers circulating around filming in NI over the past few days (and no its not Jon Snow related...well not directly) involving a certain other resurrected character who Lena Headey teased everyone about towards the end of S5.

Well filming has been underway for sometime now and lots of goodies have come out from various locations.

So a couple of points of interest and even though this is a spoilers thread I feel I should say......

SPOILERS FOR S6 AHEAD

http://winteriscoming.net/2015/09/28/awesome-pic-shows-a-northern-host-assembled-for-battle-in-season-6/

Major filming in Northern Ireland spanning a couple of weeks of a massive battle involving (based on the sigils seen) Umbrs, Boltons, Karstarks and other Northern Houses. There have been mentions of cast in Wildling garb as well and also....DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNN....a certain Lord Commander of the Nights Watch looking more vertical than the last time we saw him

As well as this confirmed sighting there has been a lot of interest in what Jon is wearing, not the black uniform of the Nights Watch but a brown leather outfit that looks a lot like what Robb and Ned were seen wearing. Do we have a new King In The North?

Filming of the Tower Of Joy flashback come to a close

Somewhat related: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms comes out next week.  It's the compilation of the three Dunk and Egg novellas -- which I haven't read yet.

Bad news: $14.99... for e-book version.

Urgh.  I already have Legends, which has the first Dunk and Egg story.
And I can get Legends II, which has the second -- and a ton of other good stuff -- for $7.99
And I can get Warriors, which has the third -- and a ton of other good stuff -- for $9.99

So... $15 and read the three Dunk and Eggs... or $17 and get more amazing stories than I have time to read...

*le sigh*

I've heard there's a lot of great art in it, so I spent the extra 3 dollars to get the real book. And agree, $14.99 seemed pretty high, especially for what it is

That's a good point.  But I can't see the art being worth it in the e-book version.  I may have to run by a brick-and-mortar bookstore to see if I want to buy the physical book for the art.

I've read all three but am still buying the collection, was hoping he would have finished the fourth one but guess TWoW is more important.

In the UK Amazon have it for £20.00 in hardback but on offer for £10 and the Kindle version is £14.99.

I don't think the stories are that special to be asking that much for, especially when they've been out in other forms for years.   Really just seems like a blatant money grab to take advantage of the show's popularity since Martin isn't getting anything new out.

I recommend getting AKOTSK, just because the art is really, really good imo. Some of the pages are a little awkward to read where the art is taking up 95% of the page though
