Revive the Fantasy Faction Book Battles?
« on: July 11, 2018, 11:05:16 AM »
Hi all,
We started the Fantasy Faction Book Battles 3 years ago, and there was lots of good discussion and ideas and discoveries.

I'm thinking of reviving it (@Hedin seems to be busy rasing his girls :D), what do you think? Will we have enough people participating to make it worth?

We have done:
- Series
- Fantasy standalone
- Sci-Fi
- Main protagonist
- Antagonist
- Sidekick

What can we do now?
Repeat the 'Series' one, see if it changes much with the last 3 years publications?
New categories, which ones? Some ideas: 'world', "battle", "plot" or "event"...

I have been summoned! I think we received nominations for secondary characters but I never got around to putting that together. My intention was to take all of the finalists for the character battles and have a contest for Best Character.

Other ideas I had before was that everyone would submit their favorite book cover (no special editions) and we would have a battle with that. Also toyed with the idea of favorite book period regardless if it's standalone or part of a series.

@ScarletBea can we Kickstart this again? I can start threads if needed.

Perhaps in fantasy books forum to attract more attention. You can move it here later.

Nobody replied to which type we should do...

I'm tempted to go with Series again, since the one we did is now 3 years old.
Is this ok?

And sorry, I like stuff organised, it'll remain here under "Book Battles" ;) people shouldn't read just one section, hehe

I'd probably take part in any type, no preference.

But if you wanted other ideas I'd suggest any of the following (some of which would mean re-doing old ones), maybe even starting with the big one:-

Writer
Book
Series
(Cover may indeed be worth a shout)

Character (overall, then sub-types)
-Protagonist
-Antagonist
-Sidekick
-Secondary (or combine with sidekick)
-Worst/annoying character (cos I've got a few)

Weapon/Artifact etc
Location etc
Race
Creature/Monster (or again combine with Race)

Shall we do that first?

Seemed like a good starter, and one that was missed before.

Writer and cover sound really good to me.
