I've only read Mistborn, and since I really enjoyed it I'll be voting for that. It's not perfect, but it's great fun.

Very cool magic system in Mistborn. However, I LOVE the way Trudi writes and these books grabbed me more than Sandersons.

Haven't read Black Magician.
But I've read Mistborn. It ain't perfect, but it's pretty interesting.

And those covers for Black Magcician? Wow, what meh.

I did see another variant that looked better but the one used was the best image I could find of all three together.

I've only read Mistbourne, so that's my choice.

Oh gosh, this one is hard for me.
I loved Mistborn.
I loved Black Magician.

Which one had the best writing? I think Trudi writes (wrote?) best.
Which one had the best magic system? Mistborn, hands down.
Which one had less characters I wanted to slap? Black Magician.
Which one had more unexpected plot twists? I think both are on a par...

Then because I think most people will vote Mistborn and that one will continue in the battle, I'll vote now for Black Magician and leave my Mistborn vote for later.

(note: if my Mistborn had those covers, I don't think I would have read them, hehe)

So I haven't read Black Magician so normally I couldn't vote for this.  However I am evoking my "Its ok to vote if one of your choices is one of your absolute favorites" clause and vote for Mistborn.  In many ways, Mistborn was a gateway drug for me when it comes to my fantasy reading.  I used to read mostly military fiction when one of my roommates convinced me to try Harry Potter.  A couple years later I read a review of A Feast of Crows (only later did I realize that the review was misleading) and that opened my horizons a bit more.  Then later when I heard that Sanderson was taking over from Jordan I decided to give him a try and started with Mistborn.  If a first time fantasy reader asks me for a suggestion more than likely I will recommend Mistborn to them.  While I know some people have some issues with Sanderson's prose I find it easily accessible and his writing is always very entertaining.

Agree Agree ;D ;D Luckily mine had these

and I loved the whole concept of allomancy and the unusual different races, so Mistborn gets my vote here.

I don't like those covers at all, the ones I posted are the ones I am used to.  I did kind of like this set though:

I did think of that when I was looking at covers last night.  I think it might be something that is too subjective but I'll be willing to give it a go at some point if there is enough interest.

Yeah, the Black Magician ones are boring (hooded person, yawn), but the Mistborn ones are just nasty. They certainly wouldn't inspire me to pick up the books.
I will expand your TBR pile.

I enjoyed the Black Magician series, and I've only read two-thirds of Mistborn, but I think my vote is still going to the latter.

Two thirds? There's 4 books you crazy human! Did you do your math that precisely to figure it out? :P
And you other humans, judging a book by its cover. You should be ashamed. I'll just stick with my blind fellows from now on. We don't have that luxury. :P
