The greatest of King is incredible, while the scholckiest is, well, awful.
But “Salem’s Lot”, “The Shining”, “The Stand”... these are primal.

I enjoyed the Assassin trilogy from Hobbs, but hated the ending. And just can’t seem to get into others of hers, though i’ll Keep trying.

I'm currently the only abstain. Can't stand Hobb, but I haven't read any King yet. (Though I have seen the laughably bad Under the Dome TV series)

Any recommendations for a good King read? There's a new print run that have snazzy covers, and Christine in particular is calling to me.

Not read Hobb, but I love King anyway. To my personal taste I'd suggest any of (in release order) Salems Lot/The Stand (my fav book)/It/The Dark Half/Duma Key/11-22-63 (Christine too - and Under The Dome is much better than the woeful TV show).

For Fantasy/Urban/Portal Fantasy it's really The Dark Tower. I actually remember little of the first book except the opening line, but books 2 and 3 were freaking fantastic. Other books might have paranormal stuff, but TDT is really more Fantasy, with its own world, magic and stuff.
Book 4 was also great. 5 and 6 being the middle books alternate between good and bad. The ending of 7 is controversial, but the final moments prior to that were those very few moments that almost made me cry because of a book. Though I was really young when I read it, who knows now.
