Abstained.

Couldn't go on with LoTR, but haven't read that much Pratchett to vote for him over Tolkien in the Grand Final.
Slow and steady wins the race.

Tolkien for me. He practically created the fantasy genre.

I'm going Sir Terry. Bith are deserving, but Terry was one of the best ever, we're lucky as fantasy fans that this was the genre he chose.

I suppose this was a predictable final, but well deserving!

And both of them have magnificent vision, and deliver it well. Pratchett gets my vote purely on subjective preference.

I’m going Tolkien.
Poetry, languages, wonder, terror, humor, bravery, Gollum, Samwise, and elves.
Nuff said.

Same for me. I couldn't read LoTR either. And I haven't read any Terry Pratchett. So I must abstain.

Many of Shakespeare's works reflect the social history and customs of his time, and include satire of certain characters whether courtier or commoner. He had to tread carefully on political comment but was a master of humour as well as moral puzzles.

When Swift wrote Gulliver's Travels it was early fantasy satire of the political and social history of his time. It has survived in many forms and become a classic.

I have been reading and re-reading Discworld for years now and have genuinely come to  believe Sir Terry is our 20th century equivalent of those famous historical satirists and in the future, when the contemporary references are less familiar, students will study and enjoy his books, and discuss how it relates to our era, even if they need Sparknotes.

So, only one choice for me despite great respect for JRRT.

I went Pratchett.
Satire, language, wonder, terror, humor, bravery, Golems, Sam Vimes, and dwarves.

I'll have to vote for Pratchett.
I love the way he writes, the vast lens on society, the variety of themes and focus, he makes me think and laugh.
