At long last we're back and this time we're doing your Favorite Sci-Fi Series.  We had 59 different books nominated for this battle and 24 made the bracket.  Since we have a 24 book bracket (there were 24 series that received multiple nominations) we had to split it out so that the Top 8 seeds received a bye.

1) You cannot change your vote once you cast it so if you aren't sure then wait until you are sure.
2) If you have not read series books or if you do not have strong feelings for one of the books, feel free to abstain from the battle.
3) Have fun, discuss, and maybe discover something new.

The bracket is listed below and please use this thread for any general discussion.

This is a battle where I'll definitely have to stay at home.
I've only read one from the second round (Hitchhikers) and will soon read a second one from there (Dune).
That's it.
I'm really not a sci-fi person in books.

I've read a bunch of these. Have always been as much an SFF as F reader. But of course there are a bunch of pairings where I know both and a bunch where I know one. Yrgh.

I used to read a lot of sci-fi and almost no fantasy, but I read mostly standalones so I've only read a handful of these. Depending on what people say about the it'll be a great way to find some more sci-fi to read! :)

Sorry, hardly read any of these series, so would be unfair to vote unless some I know pair up later. Have fun all the SF addicts, will be interesting to see what you like best and can recommend. ;D

I read three quarters of the first book from one series.

I think I am not actually a fan of space sci-fi. I like non-science space fiction and non-space science fiction.

The only book on the list that I've actually read was Hitchhikers and just the first book of that series at that.  When I was putting together everything I realized that probably half of the list I had never heard of before.  I have always intended to read more sci-fi but fantasy books that I want to read keep getting in the way.

What is "Empire Reach"? Star Wars?

Indeed not a search friendly title.

But I am pretty sure it's not Star Wars.

Imperial Radch duh.....

I have absolutely no idea why I put down Empire Reach.  I mean if I squint I can kinda see it but still.

And now I spend several minutes searching the internet for "Imperial Reach" assuming it was a typo.  :D

Question Mr. Sci-Fi (@Jmack) - Since you nominated them both what is the difference between Alliance/Union and Chanur?  When I was putting things together last night I saw Chanur being listed as a part of Alliance/Union so I got a little confused.

So all of those covers I saw while putting together the posts were interesting....
Now that I was able to see them all, are the chosen books really old, from the 70s and 80s? Or are the covers *really* that bad?
