:D
Not sure about 'at the same time', but there are plenty of occasions when I'm very much like Calvin, and see the magic in the world :)

(just not about a book called Depth Charging Ice Planet Goth, hehe

I'm wishing it was Depth Charging Ice Planet Hoth because then there would be a Star Wars reference, and that would be AWESOME! ;D

So here's another great title, courtesy of @Doctor Chill in an old
Post:

The Tobacco-stained Mountain Goat.

Love that title.

But then it's obvious what it means. That's not so interesting.

I don't know what it's about, but John Dies At The End is also a great title.

On a serious level, I love Vandermeer's City of Saints and Madmen, and The Worm of Oruborous. And Kevin Crossley-Holland's retelling of Norse mythology Axe Age, Wolf Age is pretty hard to beat.

It's not fantasy really, but I have a book on my shelf called The Minotaur Takes a Cigarette Break, which is pretty superb.

Reminds me of Paul Murray's Skippy dies.

This is all I can sodding think about now...

Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising is on of those titles that had haunted me for years.

The Saga of Noggin the Nog is just awesome. And, again not fantasy, but great fun, you probably can't beat the author/title combination Nightmare Abbey by Thomas Love Peacock.

Going slightly off-topic, as a result of plugging my novel The Court of Broken Knives, I'm being followed on twitter on a cutlery shop.

I love those books! :)

The Bulletcatcher's Daughter and the Boy with the Porcelain Blade are cool titles too (haven't read them yet, though).

A fictional book (or not) in a sci-fi book.
The ghastly ordeal of Timothy Cavendish, about a prison break of oldies from the retirement home, in Cloud Atlas.

Dark Force Rising is also a cool title, even though the book is far weaker than the other two in its series.

The marvelous Calvin and Hobbes were mentioned earlier and one of their collections had an awesome title: Scientific Progress Goes Boink. The strip could just about qualify as fantasy, because no one's ever been sure if Hobbes can really talk and interact with Calvin the way he does, if you note it he's only like that when it's just him and Calvin. Then are the wonderful old school science fiction adventures Calvin has as the intrepid spaceman Spiff.

Oh, wow, there are so many! Here are a couple:

  • I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings
  • The Eyre Affair
  • A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court
  • Fuzzy Nation
  • The Slow Regard of Silent Things
  • The Night Circus
  • The Ocean at the End of the Lane

And these are just the ones that come to mind immediately...
