So funny ;D it just shows how awful american covers are, compared to english ones - even recent books (the 'people on covers' thing, again hehe)

There is a couple of more articles where they make the exact same point. Buzzfeed and Jo Walton should get a room together and discuss Name of the Wind all night long.

Didn't Jim Hines do a coverflip parody of this one? If he hasn't already, he should.

Here's a link to a particularly horrible one by the immortal Daryl K. Sweet. You could always tell his stuff, because the horses have such appalled looks on their faces (at the things a very talented artist was sometimes commissioned to draw).

The look on the Roman soldier's face is priceless, as if the floating, naked baby is going to pee or puke on him.

This site has a nice list of terrible covers.

Hines did do that one. I think he did it with John Scalzi and Lois McMaster Bujold herself. Hines and Scalzi played the female roles while Bujold took on the male one. Baen started out doing this sort of cover and then realised how they were viewed and now they do it deliberately because it's expected, it seems to have become a bit of an in joke amongst fans.

So, does anyone think this one deserves a mention here?

It's certainly not the worst cover I've ever seen, but it's definitely rather awful.

It definitely does. Not content with simply being awful, it looks amateurishly awful.

Very different from anything else Erikson has done, too by the looks of it. I don't think they're actually awful as such, but the covers they did for the paperback versions of Jim Hines' Libriomancer series just looked wrong when compared to the original hardbacks.

I don't know what that is about, but I definitely wouldn't buy/read/pick it up with that cover. That's uhm... nope.

Luckily it's not the final cover.

Still not overly impressed...

Glad to see they removed the creepy gun-porn guy, but yeah, still looks awfully amateurish, or as M.G.B. put it, amateurishly awful.

I dislike both covers but I dislike the name even more.
