I remember why that Hobbit seems so familiar,  that was the copy the school had us check out and read when the Hobbit was assigned in eighth grade.

And while we're on the subject of bad Tolkien covers

They look like Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant!

Aah, beat me to it! Though I think it's Ricky Gervais and Mackenzie Crook (Gareth).

Amazing.
That cover wins the internetz. - Gollum looks like he's on meth or something.
Bilbo ate all the pies, and then the baker too. Slightly disturbed by this.

Bilbo ate all the pies, and then the baker too.

And, judging by the way he's looking at Gollum, I'm guessing not even he will survive for long :P

What is wrong with the cover for "the highwayman"?

Well, he doesn't know the Dread Pirate Roberts lookalike contest is that-a-way...
I'd like to say I'm a writer, but that would occasionally require product. As it stands, I'm just a dreamer with a big mouth and poor time management.

Not really a Captain, I bought the rank used off eBay.

Anyone ever read this book?  It's divided into three parts, and the first one is pretty good - a unique, post-apocalyptic/fantasy adventure.  The other two parts pale in comparison - as though Anthony ran out of creative steam.

Still, what a God awful cover...XD

I've read the Piers Anthony - I had it in three parts and all the covers were godawful, and the insides weren't that much better - it winged it's way into the recycling bin at the point where the Token Woman got raped to death... :S  Magic Kingdom of Landover, on the other hand, is pretty good.  Worth a read if you want something fun, and mine has the bad cover too!!

Never thought I'd put 'bad' and 'Lord of the Rings' in the same sentence. But, that cover for Lord of the Rings is BAD!!!

When I see that cover, I hear Cartman's voice saying "No Kitty! This is my pot pie" But instead of kitty, it would be gollem, and instead of pot pie, it would short sword.

This cover is so terrible, it's coming back to good from the other side...

Well, yes. That cover is even worse than we thought if it's supposed to be Lord of the Rings!

Landover was Terry Brooks' attempt at doing 'funny fantasy'. I believe it proved quite popular. I didn't like it much. I read the first one and it sent me scurrying back to Terry Pratchett.

Hmmm - it has funny moments, but it's also quite dark - it deals with alcoholism and depression. I found it a refreshing read from Brooks. Like I say - the sequels take it too far but Magic Kingdom For Sale/Sold was really good I thought.

Agreed. I would say it's darker more often than it's funny. And the sequels aren't nearly as good. I think I read the second book and stopped. But the first book is okay as a standalone and I would suggest trying it out. :) Nothing like Pratchett in my mind though.

And this would be the series I have. XD When I moved out I stole this set from him because my second choice was the other set. XD I actually kind of like The Two Towers art in this set. But I think that's because you can't see any of the characters very well. ;)
