Bad covers are a not insignificant factor in the consideration of picking a publisher.

While trying to remember a book title I saw recently, I stumbled across this beauty by accident.

one for @Lady Ty

delightful new urban fantasy about a kitchen witch and her magical family.

Daphne “Daffy” Rose Wallace Deschants has an ideal suburban life–three wonderful and talented children; a coffee shop and bakery, owned and run with her best friend; a nearly perfect husband, Gabriel, or “G” to his friends and family. Life could hardly be better.

But G’s perfection hides dangerous secrets. When Daffy uncovers evidence of his infidelity, her perfect life seems to be in ruins. On their wedding anniversary, Daffy prepares to confront him, only to be stopped in her tracks when he foils a mugging attempt using wizard-level magic.

Suddenly, Daphne is part of a world she never imagined–where her husband is not a traveling troubleshooter for a software company, but the sheriff of the International Guild of Wizards, and her brilliant children are also budding magicians. Even she herself is not just a great baker and barista–she’s actually a kitchen witch. And her discovery of her powers is only just beginnning.

But even the midst of her chaotic new life, another problem is brewing. G’s ex-wife, a dangerous witch, has escaped from her magical prison. Revenge-bent and blind, she needs the eyes of her son to restore her sight–the son Daffy has raised as her own since he was a year old. Now Daphne must find a way to harness her new powers and protect her family–or risk losing everything she holds dear.

Character doesn't look freakishly and there's a nice use of color. What's wrong with that?

I'm with Yora here. That's actually ... a decent cover. I immediately got "hmm, must have something to do with magical baking" the moment I saw it, and sure enough, in the back cover text

So the cover looks fairly professional (to me) and instantly tells me one of the novel things about the book (magical cooking, really?) Can't complain, honestly.

Maybe @Eclipse is just trolling us :p

 ;D ;D ;D @Eclipse is definitely trolling me
The cover makes my eyes bleed and the mention of domesticity and infidelity and acharacter named Daffy would make me run a mile ::)

Yes, Daffy is a crap name. But... if this was really well-written, it could be sort of fun.  Though I’d prefer a story in which she is not a witch but has to deal with this switch in her life without running things into a ditch when she has to deal with the ex-wife bitch.

Yeah don't really mind that cover. It seems to fit with the blurb. I think her name being Daffy is part of the fun, like Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
I will expand your TBR pile.

*anticipatory drum roll* Guys, I think I've just won the competition. *rounds of applause and hooray* I know, I know, I'm famous now.

My publisher had just sent me these two alternatives for the cover of my first novella. Anddd I was breathless...

PS. How do I talk to them about this? I ultimately value the relationship I had with the publisher, since they are the only guys willing to publish my tidbits of writing.

EDIT: Argh I can't even attach the files here. Does this link work?: https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#inbox/1612f97364723f56?projector=1

No Inks, that just took me to my own email. Don’t know how to attach photos, but someone here will help.  Really sorry you are in state of disappointment, also very curious to see covers.

Inks, you need to upload them to Google Photos, then there you right click the photo and copy the address, and then here use the 'mona lisa' button (second from left) to post the photo.

By the way, on G-Photos, if you use their option 'get link' or something similar, it doesn't work - I've tried a few times, it needs to be the long address you get from the method above.

I'm really curious now!!
