Which Fantasy Race would you like to see more of?

We recently interviewed David Tallerman and discussed with him the fact that Giants kind of disappeared from Fantasy Literature for a while. I guess, in hindsight, they are more folklore and fairytale, but still - I would have expected more of them to enter books than actually have. It seems to me that Elves and Dragons have maintained the best presence in novels so far... but what fantasy races do you think should make more appearances?

One that I've discovered pretty recently and really, really enjoyed reading about were 'Banshees'. Mark Newton has them as pretty important aspects of his 'Nights of Villjamur' series and as a race they are really cool. I believe the general lore in regards to a Banshee is  that when someone dies or is about to die, you hear their screams. I think the race is a pretty creepy one - because they are omens of death and there is a lot to play with there. Do they react to death coming, do they know when someone is about to die, do they decide a person death, what is their role before and after death other than to scream? I'd love to read a bit more about them

I think giants are a problem because of their scale - unless they are rather small giants (say, under 5m) it's damned hard for human-sized folk to interact with them.

If we're going to have more nymphs, there should be fauns and satyrs too - maybe evil ones, like the Broo in Runequest

One of the few epics that features giants is The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant.  They're about twice the size of a normal human, so fit that criteria.

There are Frowth Giants in Farland's Runelords series. Like giant hairy things. And I think there was something similar in Tad Wiliams' Memory, Sorry and Thorn books.

Brownies, Centaurs, Furies, Griffins, Cyclops and Farm Boys that stay on the farm. All great mythical creatures we could do with more of.

Apparently Patrick Rothfuss was just surfing the web, checked out the forum, and will now be putting nymphs in the third volume of King Killers Chronicles. So result there.
