Currently 30% into "Vicious" from V.E. Schwab.

Is there anyone here that's read "Vicious" and if so what were your thoughts? It got a lot of great reviews.

I'm around 50% through it. I can see why people loved it so much - it's very fast-paced, a little unusual and a fun read. But it's a bit lightweight for all that. It all hinges on some pretty big leaps of the imagination, SF or no SF.

I just started Kage Baker's In The Garden of Iden, and while I see it as much fantasy as sci-fi, it is classified as SF.

The Abyss Beyond Dreams: Chronical Of The Fallers #1 by Peter F Hamilton, I could be sometime.
To have an idea is not enough - no matter how good the idea is.

Never read Hamilton, but the sheer size of them puts me off a little. Do we expect to see you sometime before Christmas?

Hive Monkey by Gareth Powell. It's the sequel to Ack-Ack Macaque, and despite containing a number of the same characters and one of the settings it's an entirely different type of book to the first one.

Finished Honor's Knight by Rachel Bach. It's the second in a trilogy, and I loved it just as much as I did the first. These books have tons of action, and a kickass main character. There's also a lot of mystery throughout. They're not "deep" science fiction books, but they're a whole lot of fun.

For anyone who doesn't know Rachel Bach is also Rachel Aaron, the author of the Eli Monpress fantasy series, which I also loved.

Taking a pause from Peter F Hamilton's The Naked God. And started in Use of weapons by Iain M. Banks!

Just read The Martian  by Andy Weir, absolutely great. Clever and also with humour. Believe there is a film in the pipeline and hope they don't spoil it.

Currently reading Embassytown by China Mieville. I never tended to enjoy SF that much but I might have to try some more after this because it's really good!

Finished Use of weapons by Iain Bank a couple of days ago. A must read. So far one of the greater Culture novels.
Its drags you into the  psychological world of the main character, of love, family and it finishes with a surprising twist. My only complaint is that it could have been somewhat longer.

Back to The Naked God by Hamilton.
