What are you currently reading?

Thought I'd start this thread so we can discuss what we're currently reading, whatever the book!!   

I'm reading the first book in Terry Brooks' The Word and the Void trilogy, Running with the Demon.  I've slowly been working my way through all the Brooks' books and I have to say, this book is very good - different to his Shannara books, but in a good way.  It's set in America with only touches of magic so far.  Easy to read and the characters are well thought out.

Currently I am reading;

Mistborn: The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson.
Brilliant, Brilliant Writer, his writing style is phenomenal and I can see how he gets away with taking over WoT and producing a 1000 page+ book because simply he is just 'readable'. Mistborn itself is very good so far, maybe like a few others not relating to the 'main' character quite as much as I would like - I kinda want to strangle her and say 'TRUST HIM DAMMIT!!!!' but it is shaping up (about 40% through now).

Unique, Different and Enjoyable. The writing style is hard to adapt to because there is not much dialogue and you are mainly reading 'thoughts' as opposed to actions and events for the first few chapters. Also, because it is told to you by a zombie, it is fairly vivid. Once you adapt to the stye though and understand the story it is very enjoyable. It's quite a short read (about 250 pages?) and the story pushes itself along nicely. About 20% through?

Starting off this year with a Harry Potter re-read. But that's just to grease the rust off the wheels, as I have loads to read afterwards.
When I'm done with HP, I plan on:
Blood of Elves by Andrzej Sapkowski (always such a bother to figure out how to spell the name).
Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder.
I'm also in the middle of Firebrid by Mercedes Lackey, which I started quite a long time ago and could never finish since it was practically worse than bad. I have only 50 pages left though, seems a pity to quit now.

Currently I am about halfway through The Erevis Cale Trilogy by Paul S Kemp. It is set in the Forgotten Realms and it is an omnibus of his three book Erevis Cale Trilogy. It is an awesome read. The only Forgotten Realms that I had read previous to this was Salvatore's Dark Elf and Icewind Dale trilogy with his super drow Drizzt Do'Urden.

Yesterday I got and started In the Name of the Wind (Rothfuss) and The Lies of Locke Lamora (Lynch) from the library. I have read the Prologue's and first 2 chapters in each and they both have me hooked big time! I got each of these based solely on the good reviews from GoodReads and the forum here. I cannot wait to get more into both of these.

I'm 138 pages into the final volume of Kate Elliott's Crossroads trilogy, Traitors' Gate. As with the first two volumes I am enjoying the story greatly. Elliott's world building is great here just as it was in her Crown of Stars series. She always provides a wonderful history for her worlds and that history serves as a framework for her narrative, not just as window dressing. Her characters, while sometimes a bit melodramatic, are convincing and enjoyable.

@ChristinaJL - I read the first Shannara trilogy, didn't care for it much and have avoided Brooks since. However, a little while back someone assured me that his later Shannara stuff is much better and suggested that I should give him another try. I've added all the remaining Shannara books to my list, but haven't got to them yet. What are your thoughts? Does it get better?

I started The Magic of Recluce yesterday. I found it hard to get into the first few pages, but it's starting to grab my interest now. I'm only at chapter 2, so I have high hopes for it.

I finished the Terry Brooks book yesterday, it only had 342 pages, so I whipped through that one quickly!!    @Obtuse - I've enjoyed most of Terry Brooks' books, but I have heard other people who weren't keen on his original Shannara trilogy enjoyed the Word and the Void series.  Although the original books were published 1977-85 - maybe that's why people aren't so keen, as this is 30 years old now, but I like the old stuff!!

Started Steven Erikson's first Malazan book Gardens of the Moon and have read the prologue and most of chapter one.  Got to say, he writes really well, so I think I'm going to love this series!!

Malazan is HUGELY popular, one of the top 5 Fantasy series I would say...

@Overlord, his first book was the Sword of Shannara, but he wrote a prequel later, and the Word and the Void series is before in the time sequence, I'm guessing?

I enjoyed that book aswell, but not sure if i should buy the next installment(Korvus) as it was ment to be a stand alone!
HOWEVER, look into The Mark of Ran (The Sea Beggars, #1) also by Paul i love those books, although its not historical fantasy like 10k, sadly something went wrong with his publisher i read on his forum so the last book is delayed. I think he is a really underestimated writer, I also got several of his other books on my wishlist.

Currently, I'm reading Myst: The Book of Ti'Ana again (hehehe, I'm prepping for the movie). After that, I have no idea what I'm going to read... But I have Waking the Witch and The Reckoning, both by Kelley Armstrong and ArchEnemy by Frank Beddor in my "to-read" pile.
