Just finished Tom Winter's Lost and Found - not my usual sort of thing, given that it's general fiction without a sniff of dragons or robots or paranormal serial killers, but I found it an incredibly compulsive, funny and moving read. Got through the whole thing in two days, which is incredibly fast for me.

Now I'm on to Guy Gavriel Kay's Under Heaven. I've not read any of his work before, but I think I'm in writerly love. The imagery is so beautiful - the sort of fiction that really takes you to another place and time.

You should read Tigana by him.

Finished Chuck Wendig's The Blue Blazes which was really good.

I've started The City by Stella Gemmell. Haven't read much of it yet, but what I have, I am really enjoying.

I have heard many good things about that! It's definitely on the list now.

Finished Necessary Evil, the final of the Milkweed triptych by Ian Tregillis. OMG what a book! What a series! Just started Larry Correia's  Hard Magic, the first of his Grimnoir Chronicles.
I will expand your TBR pile.

I had to put Ex-Heroes to one side for a bit after The Night Circus.. I was in a chick lit mood so zombies weren't doing it for me, or clichéd relationships, and it just couldn't live up to THAT. So I started a chick lit called Billy and Me by Giovanna Fletcher. I recommend it if you like that sort of thing. :)

After a three months break I decided to finish the last few pages of Ian C Esslemont's Orb, Sceptre, Throne (easily the dullest Malazan book EVER written). It was ok once I got back into it but there really is no pay off for reading the f****** thing. Although there are some interested turn of events inside and some old characters that are always a welcome sight on Wu. And even though OST sucked so badly, I still went and started on the next book, Blood and Bone, but in its defence this one has the Crimson Guard in it, so it just has to be good . . . right?  ;D
I saw them on the shores
the deepening pits of their gaze
vowed immortal war
against the sighing calm
of Jaghut seas . . .

Put down Catch-22, having gotten 75 pages in and still lacking any sort of plot or likeable characters. Instead picked up Dante's Inferno, which is already promising to be more entertaining.

Am juggling King Rat and The Shining Girls. Both are good, though I prefer the first to the second.

Finished Black Feathers by Joseph D'Lacey today. Cracking book. Very thought-provoking and deserves to place highly in the end of year "Best of 2013" lists. Along with the 2nd part, The Book of the Crowman, it will be something seriously special.

Also finished Planetary Vol. 1 by Warren Ellis. Really weird and confusing read, but strangely enjoyable. I suspect it was supposed to be confusing. I'll be onto Vol. 2 as soon as I can get a copy.

Nearly finished The Troupe by Robert Jackson Bennett, and it's also excellent.

Finally, about to start The Anubis Gates by Tim Powers. I keep hearing the name and this one sounds like it could be a good opening to Powers' work.  :)

I'm a big fan of Powers' "On Stranger Tides" (surprising, eh?). Might have to get Anubis Gates, the concept is intriguing.

I'm back to Hyperion just now, whilst I wait for Abbadon's Gate to come out.

Gates seem to be on trend this month.

The Masque of the Red Death by Bethany Griffin. Really enjoying this one. There's a lot of mystery and dark atmosphere, loving comparing it to Poe's short story as well and seeing how Griffin has evolved the story into her own.

Although I'm not sure it is packed with likeable characters....
