I've just started Black Lung Captain, the second book of the Ketty Jay series. Amazing like the last book so far.

Haha, I meant to read it myself to see how good it holds up nowadays - I wrote the stories in 2010/11...

I'm curious to hear what you liked/didn't like. :)

Finished Grey Sister and currently a little over halfway through Holy Sister from Mark Lawrence.  I finally found a match with Lawrence with this series.  The previous two the writing and the world were intriguing to me but I never cared about the characters.  This one is a bit opposite where the world itself isn't really pulling me in but I really enjoy the characters.

I liked all the stories  with different takes on time but felt there were way too short I would have liked to see at least one average sized short. I really wanted the reincarnation story to last a bit longer.

Thanks! Cool, that you liked them. :) Maybe I'll write longer versions when the kids are grown and I have time. ;)

I finished Skyward. I really enjoyed it, as is probably clear by the fact that I read a 500-page book in just over 2 days.

Next is gong to be Beggar's Rebellion by Levi Jacobs, another SPFBO finalist and my January KOLL loan.  I admit that I picked it because it looked like the shortest of the 3 SPFBO books I still had available to borrow. I don't know too much about it, but I need to get it read before I lose my February loan.

About 50% into this and this is awesome. I'm not a fan of the flow, random switches, info dumps etc...but despite all that author weaves a tale that leaves you hooked.

Plus this is a hot pot of mythology. Apart from usual Greek, Roman, Chinese and Hindu they have Sumerian et al. A bit overwhelming, but utterly fascinating.

On with this ..

Finished Dale Lucas' Friendly Fire, and it was a load of fun. Full of great characters, action and humour without ever becoming an outright comedy. There's already a third book out and I can't wait to read it.

Done. Finished!

A roller coaster of a fantasy read. It's a hot pot of mythology with references and characters from Egyptian, Indian, Sumerian, Greek, Buddhist, Irish amongst others making references.

The first sentient being on this planet is Father who sired Firstborn who then procreated the Secondborn and so forth. After a huge war amongst themselves, these creatures still walk amongst humans in current day Earth, cloaked and hidden, with their own intents and purposes....which is about to change. And the protagonist kids Fi and Zeke are caught up in this. It's captivating from the get go and has mega fights to satisfy even the most die hard magic fan.

The writing style is a bit bizarre as the pov switches multiple times in same page. The effect is weird, but somehow fits the story well. The books takes some getting into, but never lacks entertainment from page one.

If you like a book between gods, angels, monsters and powerful creatures slugging it out amongst themselves, then dig in. I loved it.

Finished the first powder mage book. It's wonderfull I wish I had read it years ago. I can even forgive the author, editors, proof readers et al allowing a line about loading a bullet then the charge into a flintlock rifle which made me wince hard.
